When I install a new version of SongShow Plus, will I lose my previous files, settings and songs?

Applicable SongShow Plus Versions:
This article applies to all versions of SongShow Plus

The short answer is No.

No user song files, nor any other user data files are removed or overwritten when SongShow Plus is installed or un-installed.  However, as with any program, we recommend that you first make a backup of your SongShow Plus media files using the Back-up/Restore tool before proceeding with the new installation.

On the initial installation of the next full version, the result will be a NEW version of SSP install alongside the prior full version.  This will allow users to review updates/features without losing the prior version until they are ready to commit. During this process, it should import all display, slide and preference settings from the prior version.  A new full version is defined by a change in major (X) or minor (x) numbers - i.e. X.x.

NOTE: Skipping major numerical versions during the upgrade process will break the connection for the automatic copy of the configuration. Contact support if this occurs.

Sub versions (dated build updates of the same version) will overwrite the prior installation of that same version and will still use the previous settings configuration.

At no time are media files changed or deleted during either process - these are located in a completely different file path.

NOTE: At times, particularly with a major SongShow Plus update, the method used for storing and retrieving settings may change and in some cases the previous settings are no longer used, which may require the re-configuration of the Control Panel layout or other settings.

If after updating to new build you find that either your Media Files are not showing up in SongShow Plus or your Slide Properties/Display Settings do not appear to be the same, you can check these settings using these articles:
