Unable to Install: Unable to find IsUserAnAdmin

10/9/2006

Symptom:
When attempting to run the SSP installer, an error message is immediately presented containing a reference to IsUserAnAdmin and that it cannot be located or loaded.  This affects the August 2006 Edition of SSP.

Cause:
The setup file for the August 2006 Edition was modified to use a new system routine that apparently is not avaialble with earlier releases of XP.

This can also occur if you are attempting to install SSP on a pre-XP version of Windows. (As of this post, SSP is only supported on Windows XP Professional.)

Solution:
Your system needs to have a newer version (5.0 or later) of the Windows shell installed. This can be best accomplished by upgrading to Service Pack 2 for Windows XP.

As of this post, it is not yet determined if the SSP installer will be reworked to be compatible with pre-SP 2 releases of Windows XP.
