Version 7 > Latest update really messed us up for Sunday morning service! :(

Last week, upon opening SSP on my "work station" desktop computer, I was asked to update or upgrade or something.  I didn't pay a lot of attention. So I did the upgrade, no problem.  Everything went fine and I created the presentation for Sunday as I always do - except that I didn't think about needing to do the update/upgrade on the projection computer until I booted it up on Sunday morning and got the same update/upgrade message because the file I was trying to open was created in the newer version.  Didn't anticipate any problems - I was there early and had plenty of time to accomplish this - so I did it and rebooted the computer.  Unfortunately, 20 minutes before the service was to start, when I opened the presentation (saved on our network), SSP could not find any of the song files!   The weird thing was that the rest of the presentation was there - just none of the songs.  Now, I know when I originally set up that computer, I went into Preferences/Utilities and "pointed" the program to look for all the files on one of our network drives - so I didn't have to keep "packaging" the program every week from my computer to the projection computer.  This has worked seamlessly until now.  Of course, in the panic of a Sunday morning without the presentation and with only minutes to spare, I had no clue where to begin to search out the Preferences/Utilities . . . found it later . . . but it wouldn't have done me any good because after church, when I did find it, I still could not get the thing pointed to the right directory.  For some strange reason it was looking for the song files in a place that doesn't exist, (I can give the specific path name, if needed, tomorrow when I'm back in the office).  It would browse only to the SSPData folder on the network, but the rest of the path name was greyed out, and I could not edit the path in any way.

God was so gracious on Sunday in that my husband thinks quick on his feet (unlike me) and he pulled in another computer, got it hooked up to the projector, and we ran old powerpoint song files for worship - but it was extremely stressful and my boss was not altogether happy with me.  But I'm left wondering what could possibly have gone wrong?  Why would SSP "keep" all the paths when updating my desktop computer, but lose them all when updating the projection computer?

I'll be checking back tomorrow to see if anyone responded.  I'm hoping you guys can help me because I have to get this fixed by worship practice on Thursday night and I'm at a loss.

Thanks and Bless you.

What version did you update from and to. I recently updated only my workstation from June 2010 to October 2010 and now I'm getting catastrophic failure when I try to play some of my motion backgrounds? http://www.ssplash.com/Forums/tabid/76/aff/15/aft/17584/afv/topic/Default.aspx

Not sure what the version was that I updated from - certainly the most recent before this as I'm always prompted to update. But I updated to the 4.1.2011 build.

Now that I'm here at work - the projection computer is looking for songs at K:\SspData\Songs\Indexes\Index.sblst  ("K" being the network drive that all the SSP files are kept on).  The folder SspData\Songs\Indexes does exist on the K drive, but there is no "Index.sblst" in that folder, and the actual song files are all found in the folder "K:\SspData\Songs".  The dumb thing is that the workstation computer had no trouble at all navigating to that folder after the update . . . but the projection computer has, apparently, gone off on a tangent.

When I go to Tools\Utilities\Data Files Setup on either computer, it says that the current path for data files is K:\SspData.  The projection computer is having no trouble finding images that are within that folder on the K drive, but it's not navigating to the songs file.  I can't tell where the program is supposed to be finding the song library - but between the two computers, it's obviously looking in two different places.  Also, when I experimented by trying to export a song from SongSelect, I got a dialog box that said "Catastrophic failure".

The alerts I get when I open the program on the projection computer are as follows:

   * Unable to load themes for the native database

   * Unable to load tempos for the native database

   * Unable to load collections for the native database

   * Unable to open song database SongSelect 3.0  Reason: class not registered.  Check to see that SongSelect is properly installed (it is)

   * Unable to use file type: Video File.  Reason: an internal application error has occurred

   * An unexpected error has occurred.  Please contact tech support if this problem continues.

I recognize that I may very well need to call tech support - but thought I'd check here first to see if anyone has any idea what to do.

It's a little late, but my advice, based on a couple of quirky SSP update installations, is to never go into an SSP update without a plan that includes a fallback position.  For the record, the updates went fine - it was the SSP functional and structural changes that came with the updates that messed me up.

I was thinking about re-installing, but . . . is it possible that this has happened because we did not renew our subscription in December after the first year?  This is the information that was included with the original email that gave me the unlock codes:

"Please note that your SongShow Update Service will expire on 12/14/2010. SSP itself will not expire -- you can continue using it past this date. However, installing any newer versions of SSP after the expiration date will require a renewal of the SSP Update Service."

Can someone PLEASE advise!

If your subscription expired 12/14/2010, you can still get the October 2010 version under your license.

Quick update on this thread....

I spoke with this user offline and it turns out the issue was caused by a change in their network.

I am having the same issue with the songs. It will not keep the database of songs. Every time I search for a song it fails, then that song is not longer able to be displayed. When I add it to a program I get a big red x next to it.

If I clone the song then I can use it the cloned one. But that is not quick!!

Any advise?

I would call tech support on that. Of course, that won't help this weekend.

Same thing happeded to me last Sunday morning. I updated SSP and then all my songs were missing. I was able to type in a couple of new songs just in time for service. I found that all the songs are still there only I can't filter or search for them. You have to look in the "Search All Songs" tap and just go alphabetically till you find the one you want. When is this going to be fixed? I am very dissapointed in this software update. We have been using this for several years.

Obviously this is not intended behavior on the part of SSP. Did you try reindexing the database? Since the files are still there, that should fix the problem. But we would also like to understand what caused the problem.

How do I reindex the song DB?
You can manually trigger a re-index as follows:

From the main SSP toolbar click Tools > Database Utilities > SongShow Plus > Rebuild Indexes...

Also this KB may help with your issue:
