A number of 3D transitions have been developed and distributed in SSP 5.5.  These transitions bring a level of video effects that more closely match what you would get on dedicated video switcher.

Here are a few questions to spark discussion: How do you employ transitions in your presentations? Which ones are your favorites and why? If you haven't been using them, what changes would inspire you to start? Are you pleased with the variety? What features would you like to see added?

Honestly, we haven't used 3D video transitions.  I just haven't taken the time to fully investigate them actually.  I guess they could look cool during sermon slides.  I'm just afraid they would be distracting.  Do you have any suggestions?  Do you think they would enhance in between songs?

During the sermen we use less complicated transitions so as not to be distracting.  But I like to use a different transition for each slide in the pre service slide show to keep it as exciting and different as possible.  The fly ins, blocks and streaks are some of my favorites but if we are showing 6 different announcement slide then I'll set up 6 different transitions.  During Pastor's announcements from the pulpit I try to just make them fad in, though.

We use the 3-D transitions for the announcements and occasionally for Bible verses, we use the Page or curl on.

During the announcements, we'll use most any of them. For more sedate announcements (prayer meetings and such), I'll use the 3-d fly in and for the higher energy announcements (kids programs, youth get-togethers, etc) I'll use most anything. I really like the block effects and probably use those most. But I've been experimenting more and more with the slate.

One other use. We have the screen go up in the middle of the service for a while, and I use a 3-d fly out up on a blank screen to display right before the screen goes up. Nice effect.

Regarding transitions, I use them all of them regularly in the preservice video. I change them periodically for variety's sake, even if it is a cloned "slide". No one will watch sameness all the time, therefore those transitions are extremely important.

During SSP I use one of the fades. When going from a song to a "blank" slide (showing a cross or bible) I use a 5.5 second fade. People have gotten accustomed to that as the signal the song is over, which is useful when the band continues playing an ending for a bit. We transition between verses rather quickly, but with a fade.

The default transition I use is fade upper left to lower right.

That allows the last words of the verse or chorus to be the last ones off the screen. The screen can start changing the top left, while we are still singing the last word or two.

kinda late, but anyway :p

I use 3d transactions all the time ... I mean durring a song, after each verse & chorus, I have time to change the transiction ... if you set the time no more than 1.4 sec, it should be fine (most of the songs .... watch out for the faster tempo)

As for the rest, ike bible verses, or pictures etc, I use the face transiction so (like somebody said) ppl won't get distracted .....but durring a song I don't see why not playing with the transictions .... I am telling you, it's a lot of fun :p

It's not late at all - I love reading about which transitions are used.  This is also a great place to request transitions you would like to see in the future.  I check for new posts in the You Tell Us! forum every day!

Steve:

1. Some of the newer transitions have menu lists that are quite long (in SSB anyway). How about breaking some out into a second level menu list for those that vary only slightly. If that has preview difficulties, how about just breaking the long lists into two?
2. Beyond transitions, a logical addition would be to include 3-D animations of text objects in SSB, and an ability to spin and rotate text. Not for songs, of course!
3. Those new transitions were very welcome here!
4. You invited suggestions for another one. Maybe spin, and also spinning while zooming in or out. And maybe some on curved paths.

Thanks for the suggestions.  This one you listed above here will be provided as a ProModule with V7.

Better late than never...

I love the 3D transitions! I use the Page Curl, Fly In 3D, Tile In etc all the time for Announcements slides and one of our pastors loves me to use them for his sermon siles as well.
I use a variety for the Announcements, and for sermons slides I usually use the same within a group, for example, maybe a Fly In, then a Fly Out and so on, alternating.

For songs I use a simple Fade Full.

As for suggestions for new 3D transitions...Hmmm....how about having a Fold In or Out - have the slide fold up like a piece of paper.
That's all I can think of now, you really have covered a lot with the most recent promodules and versions.

Thanks!
Keep up the good work!

No problem.  These threads are intended to say open indefinitely so I encourage anyone to jump in at any time.

I'll take that last post to heart Doug.

For our traditional services, fade full, strictly.
For youth events, whatever I fancy, I use a display properties in the programs for youth events EXTENSIVELY, dragging and dropping properties around as needed.
IE, I'll have 1 for sparkle transition, 5 seconds, another for 10 seconds. etc.
My wish for these is that you can rename them just like a break.
