I use different backgrounds. But I do try to tie them together visually with the theme of the service.

For the more traditional services, we stick to one background per song.
But for the youth and contempory services we use background improv and any number of backgrounds.

I usualy pick backgrounds that fit the song. Since our songs are not usualy in line with the sermon. We use our worship to prepare our congregation hearts to recieve the Word. Ususaly people are so moved by our last song, they are prepared for God to touch their hearts.

I use motion exclusively, anything from Digital Juice loops to long play videos. I normally try to pick backgrounds that will cover two or three songs each and keep my selections to no more than three per service. I feel if I try using a different one for each song it gets too "busy".

We use background improv exclusively for all songs. Depending on the song and operator we could change backgrounds several times a song. Most of our backgrounds are from Worship Films Fusion series and can be changed at will...even Sunday morning!

We Don't Use Backgrounds For songs. We use a Solid Black Background and Yellow Lettering. However I have my Global Display properties set to Background Improv. I find that I have trouble finding Backgrounds that that are colored correctly (No Areas where the Song gets "lost" in the Picture) and By having a black background the Video Guy can overlay the words for the DVD Recording(even tho the Video is Darkened). For this reason I'd Like to see Video Devices added to the Background Improv Module so I can overlay them (without Darkening them). (I already submitted this to the Wish list).

What do your churches use for backgrounds? Motion backgrounds, Still images, Solid Colors, or Slates (such as the Blue-Green Texture)

Where Do you find these?

How much time do you spend looking for these Backgrounds?

I'd like to try this but am unsure if I have the time or resources to look for Meaningful Background Files.

With our lower powered projector, we had to be real careful of what images we used and what color text we use on which images. However, with our new projector, we really haven't had a problem.

You can go into Advaced Effects for your image or motion background and adjust the brightness and contrast, color and lots of other things to see if it works. Of course. that's not going to help your DVD guy.

You could also make colored rectangles and layer them over the image or video, where you want the lyrics and adjust the opacity as appropriate.

We use a lot of images from Churchmedia.net. It costs $39/year for a pro membership to access their Media eXchange Center (MXC), with over 18,000 images and videos (mostly images). (Disclaimer: I hung around the place so much, they made me one of the moderators.)

You can go over there and browse for free. You just can't download videos or look at the full size graphics.

Quite often we layer these with abstract videos, such as some of the stuff from Digital Hotcakes or one of the build in visualizations, like Gradient Motion, to add some interest and to tie the entire program together either with theme or color scheme or something.

This softens the videos and, when combined with the right graphic, makes them more connected to the songs and theme.

Hope this helps.

Heres some places for some of the motion backgrounds we use.
I have also made quite a few of my own,

www.worshipfilms.com
www.radiatefilms.com
www.digitalhotcakes.com

www.digitaljuice.com
www.worshipscapes.com
www.actionbacks.com

There are plenty of others as well, I am sure people will add to this.

We typically use the same background for all songs in one service, but change backgrounds from week to week.

We use the same background for regular songs, but specials, such as choir songs, or a solo, we will put a different background and font to set it aside from regular worship songs.

I generally use a different background for each song. I try to use colors and images that help move the emotions through the service. Brighter colors earlier to get them more excited cooler colors closer to the message to help them calm down and be ready to open there ears and hearts.

Now that we have SSP, we use Background Improv almost all of the time! We use effects over the motion backgounds as well as the speed of motion background to affect the mood of the song - for example, we might use slower moving backgrounds with a blue or purple hue color effect for a slow reverent song; and fast backgrounds and brighter hue effects when upbeat praise songs. What's nice about the hue color effects capabilities is that we can use "all" of our moving backgounds and are not limited to the ones that are only Blue or Purple to get the effect we want.
We feel like we are part of the instruments of the song - we will change backgrounds (within reason as the Spirit leads) during the song several times - we tend to use brighter backgrounds as a song builds during a Chorus for example.

Basically what Rod said further above, but for our divisional youth events 5+ per song, easy. But there is a recurring theme among then, wether it be hands, or INSANE fast motion.

I also create a lot of my own backgrounds.
