You Tell Us! > What type of background do you typically use for songs?

That's hard to answer. On Sunday we use video backgrounds. Our Wednesday youth service uses visualizations almost exclusively.

Quite often we use visualizations over an image or an image over a video.

Always Motion backgrounds.

I user Black almost exclusively due to the fact that it is the easiest to get to since my Global Properties are set to Background improv and it does relatively good with chroma Keying and Fade in on our Video Board.

Almost always a musical instrument or symbol blurred so that it is not too distracting nor interferring with the text.

In our contemporary services we use a lot of images and videos, and some custom layouts of color and text position. During our traditional services it's almost exclusively our standard BG color setup, which is a gradient.

We use an image, visualization or video.  I really like the long plays for certain songs.

I am not sure if it is because we need a new lamp, or if the ambient light is greater than it has ever been, but everything is too washed out to really make use of anything other than yellow on black. I might try white on blue today. We do use some images and animations on the slide shows, but I usually have to use the shadow effect on the text to get it to make the text easy to read.

BTW - I want to upgrade our projector from a 2600, and then move it to the backwith a longthrow lens. I have received what looks like good advice to go with at least 4200. Anyone doing this in a building that has a LOT of ambient light?

Yes. The throw really has nothing to do with how many lumens you need, just the screen size and ambient light.

Here's an article about figuring out what you need.

We've always done long throw, but last year we upgraded from an 1100 lumen unit to a 6,000 lumen unit. (We got it refurbished). We run it in power saver mode, cutting it to 4,700 lumens and it looks great. We can do all kinds of subtleties and such that really show up well. And our building is lined with stained glass windows.

On the Church laptop the other operators usually use a static Image or black. Our youth operators actually prefer Black. When I am on & I use my laptop I mostly prefer Video background - particularly the pan /zoom on a static image. But my greatest concern always is that the image/video compliments the words being sung rather than draws attention to itself.

For songs, I always use a looping video file or sometimes a Visualization lik Aurora or Clouds.
I am using, and liking,  Background Improv more and more with video files.

Of course our Youth and Young Adults services use the more crazy and fun videos and on Sundays I use more appropriate, complimentary and non-distracting videos.

We use a JPG of sky and clouds for Sunday meetings (with our bright projector) or black with our low-power projector. Kids' Ministry use visualisations, etc..

Video all the way. Mostly looping graphics but really like the long plays when appropriate. I frequently use the effects options now available in SSP7. Keep up the great work guys. I just hope I can convince the church to allow computer upgrades to keep up with all the new stuff.

We now always use Video Improv with a default video. Love it. Would love it even more if we could synchronize song elements (verse, bridge, etc) with particular default video files. - Kirk

I like the looping videos with gentle moving water because I think the slight movement helps prevent people from being distracted with what is happening outside the church but one of our Elders has problem with reading on moving backgrounds so I usually use fixed images the Open Source program.

Open Song has some free download backgrounds particularly a zipped pack of images called Adorateur. I got this before buying SSP7 and still find the images useful. We also use a number of scenic photos from our Pastor and one of our members who is a naturalist and tour guide.

Generally for songs we are singing i use a Digital Juice Color Gradient image. For specials that they want the words up for i use motion or video backgrounds.

Traditional, scenery, real life objects.
Youth, whatever goes. Grunge, Light streaks, 3D objects, any Digital Juice stuff really. Loving the Tunnels backgrounds.

A variation of the theme graphic, sometimes with motion effects added.

Video loops, if we can get one to match the theme.

Occasionally, we find just the right loop for a particular song, but usually the same graphic for all songs.
