You Tell Us! > Presenting .swf Files

For some time now, SSP has provided a plugin letting you play .swf (Flash) files as video files (Flash plug-in). This is done by embedding a Flash window into the SSP Display Window then running the .swf content. (Please note that I am referring to .swf files, not .flv files which are associated with video that is encoded using the On2 video compression used by Flash a few years ago).

I can tell you that, do to certain significant internal changes, support for .swf files has already been removed for the October 2010 Edition. However, if there is significant use of stand-alone .swf files, then please let us know and we will consider making alternate arrangements for its support.

From my perspective, most Flash content is played within the context of a website, and now that SSP provides support for the presentation of websites, the need to present stand-alone .swf files seems unecessary.

Let us know.

I have a few swf files, but it has been ages since I was asked to play them. I have wanted to use them as backgrounds a few times, but was unable to do so. I could live without this feature as long as the source of those swf files is never used again. They were previously purchased by the Pastor's wife. I have no idea where she bought them.

Seesm like I've used it once. Real support of FLVs would be much more useful.

I agree. When talked with On2 Technologies some time ago, it was apparent that their licensing terms were rather onerous, so I didn't pursue a license agreement with them.
