Version 7 > DVD Plugin not working - maybe encoder issue?

Hello - I have a problem playing DVDs in SSP. I bought and downloaded Intervideo Xpack (WinDVD Player SE Version) and I can play DVDs with windows media player and InterVideo, so I know I have an encoder/codec installed. When I go to select a DVD clip, I get to the "Import DVD Title" window, but after clicking "Open DVD", it's either sluggish or SSP locks up completely and I have to hard close it.
When I installed Xpack, the install program told me there are other encoders installed and that I should remove them, I skipped by this. Does anyone know how to check for this and then remove them? This may be the problem, but I don't know.
I also tried uninstalling Xpack and downloaded PowerDVD 7, but I had to use the trial version as you can't buy version 7 anymore (they are on v.9 now). Also, with the trial version installed SSP stated there was not a player loaded. I did not buy the new PowerDVD yet and try it.
We just got this computer about 6 months ago and it came with Vista, but we reinstalled XP on it. I am willing to completely wipe the computer and start over if necessary.
Any suggestions?
Andrew

Neither of these two DVD software are supported by SSP. PowerDVD 7 requires the full version. Most people have used the WinDVD 4 from places like EBAY. You might also try EBAY for PowerDVD 7. I bought ULEAD Studio 11.5 to be able to get the included WinDVD 8 on my workstation PC, but I haven't tried importing DVD in SSP. This machine is lacking the horsepower to use advanced SSP features.

FYI: We had the same issue of DVD's not being recognized by the importer. Installed WinDVD 8 on our Windows 10 system using SSP 8.5 and all works fine.

I think most of us have stopped playing DVD's and gone the route of figuring a way to
get the video onto the computer hard drive. It is much easier and safer to play from there.
We don't even have a DVD player in the projection booth anymore.
