Version 9.3 > Essentially all programs are unstable and/or stopped working completely!
9.3 stopped working on our presentation PC a few months ago, so we reverted to using 9.2. We have fewer crashes, but still have some. My workstation at home continues working with 9.3, but Builder has become completely unstable and stops responding after the slightest editing. I've tried using the Builder from 8.5 which has seemed to work somewhat better until this week when none of the Builder versions I have will respond for more than a few minutes. Most of the time Builder won't show both text and background at the same time and then the screen goes white with the often repeated "not responding" message and the task manager is required to abort. I absolutely hate the fact that this program has been so botched up that it is almost impossible to make a presentation anymore.
Wow. That's rough. Since I worked with support, SSP has been only hanging occasionally and during building, not presentation. Slide show builder does hang way too often, especially when trying to render a video thumbnail.
I wish I knew why it starting working well, but it's doing ok for us.
You are not alone. I find 9.3 is not stable, especially if I edit while projecting (historically an advantage of SSP) or have a motion background.
I always restart SSP before each service.
You might try keeping track of the memory usage via the task manager. I have found that when it gets to about 800 MB on my workstation or 900 MB on my projection PC, a crash is imminent. This is generally only about 20% of the available memory! I watch the memory usage while I make a program (usually by altering a previous one), and find that every edit (even deletions) causes a permanent increase in memory usage of about 15 MB. Restarting will restore the usage to approximately 250 MB. Once all the edits are finished, I don't find the memory increasing, and I can do the projection without too many problems -- crash-wise!
Builder, on the other hand, stops responding very often, especially when trying to add motion background and/or some of the entrance transitions like Dissolve and Materize. I have to Save after every edit, and sometimes I only get one edit before a crash! The tech(s) must know about these problems, but I don't see much attempt to solve them. As a programmer from the distant past, I have found that those who produce buggy programs are not very likely to be able to correct them!
