Last week it was working fine. But now all of my images, videos and audio files have disappeared and it simply says "No files." where they would normally be listed inside Song Show. I look in my RTechnics folder however and sure enough all the files are still there but Song Show is not recognizing them? I don't want to roll back updates hopefully a bug can be found?

Here are the windows updates that were applied to my system since last week when it was working:

I wonder if SSP 8 got pointed to another directory?

Brian,
That is odd...

Try this - Go to the images panel.  I assume that the Search by Folder option is selected.  I also assume that the pane below lists at least the top level "Image Files" place holder.  If that is correct right click that and select Explore and see what happens.

Let me know what you get and we can move from there...

Brian,

If you right-click on the folder within the Media Files Panel and choose the menu command Explore, does that take you to a folder that contains the files that aren't showing up in the Media Files panel?

If this is the case, it means that SSP is pointed at the correct folder, but is not seeing the files. If this is the case, I have an idea of what the problem is. On the other hand, if in Explorer you are not seeing the files either (that is, when opening Explorer from within SSP -- an important point) then that's a different issue.

It started working again this week. All my images, videos, audio files are back.

I don't know what happened last week. I didn't change anything.

SSP 8.0 is designed to use Windows Desktop Search primarily for all searches, including those that just return a list of files within a folder. One drawback to this approach is if the system index gets reset and the indexing process is not complete, then even a search on a folder that contains files may come up empty if that folder hasn't been indexed yet.

The 7/10 build doesn't check the indexing status. The next build will actually check the indexing status and, if the indexing process is not complete, default to the more rudimentary directory search method for retrieving files within a folder.

My suspicion is that what you experienced is related to the system index.

Doug, Yes you are correct.

If anyone else has this problem you can manually rebuild indexing:

1.) Open Control Pannel
2.) In the search box type "indexing options"
3.) Click on "indexing options" to bring up the dialog box.
4.) Click on "modify" to create an indexing entry for the R-Technics folder by navigating to the folder and checking the box next to "R-Technics" folder and close dialog.
5.) Then Click on "Advanced" ... If you want to speed up the indexing process change the indexing location to the same drive your "R-Technics" files are stored. (optional)
6.) Lastly click on "Rebuild" button and it will take a few minutes to complete. Status is on top of the dialog box and will say "Indexing is complete" when it is all done.

Now Song Show should be seeing all of your assets again and the magic tricks should be over with.
