SSP websites are conflicting on what it wants. This seems to imply WinDVD or Leadtools and excplicitly says not to use PowerDVD.

This one kinda implies the exact opposite.

What does and does not work? What works best? Does it just need to codec (EG, the freebies should be OK) or does it utilize more of the app? Is this something thats changing with every version?
Inquiring (and frustrated) minds want to know.
Thanks,

The dates on the 2 links pretty much tell the story. The first
link, dated 3/10/06, is the DVD specs/requirements for DVD support on
the SSP 5.5 and the initial release of SSP 7.
The second link clearly says, "SongShow Plus Version 7, October 2006 Edition or later is required to use the latest version of this plug-in." This an update to the original release of SSP 7.
FWIW, I have tested the October 2006 DVD support module with good results so far, using WinDVD 4 on my system. I have not been able to test it with a newer release of PowerDVD.
I also noticed your frustrated post today on the subject of DVD support in various worship software packages over at churchmedia.net. You should keep in mind is that DVD playback support within worship software packages is still relatively new, pretty much within the last 2 years or so. This new DVD module from the SSP team may well be the best such support on the market, and they have made a clear commitment to improving the product with additional features and enhanced stability.
If you haven't tested the new version yet, you should.
Blessings,
Roger

Hi Roger. That's kinda what I'd gathered, but wanted to make sure and also find out what versions of what do or do not work well or otherwise. Over the past year this has been a moving target (and not just for SSP). We were using the latest SSP download for our tests and if I remember right WinDVD7, but I need to check. Personally I'd prefer that they license whatever they need and include everything that they can guarantee works together in one package. As much as I enjoy technology and playing around with stuff, I really don't want to have to spend alot of time trying to figure out what the flavor of the week for required auxillary software is.
I agree that SSP's DVD capabilities may be the best in the market, though I'd like to see them play our entire stack as well as other stuff before proclaiming a winner. What I've seen is promising, just not quite there yet. Last year our biggest issue was an impossible to navigate licensing and download structure that made an eval of 5.5 impossible. They've fixed that and seem to be making good progress.
