Version 8.0 > Chromex 2.0 for search by color

A build of the Search-By-Color tool, Chromex, is now available for use with the Preview release of SongShow Plus 8.0 dated 10/04/2013 and later.  It has been posted and is available for download to users with a current subscription.

Adding this along with your SSP 8 installation will allow you to search by color for the image and video files in the SongShow Plus area.

To add this capability, please download the Chromex installer file from the beta downloads area and run it.  For best results, choose the Full installation option.
When walking through the installer it may ask about a custom installation.  At this point the safe bet is the Full option although if you select custom and choose all the extensions for filtering you will get the same results.

Depending on your operating system and the number of media files you have on the system, it may take some time for all files to be indexed by color and become available for searching by color.

As is the case with any of the other features, if you find issues with the search by color option or do not believe it is working as expected, please let us know by posting back in this thread.

This will work for SSP 7 as well if you have a side by side installation of SSP 7 and SSP 8 so let us know if you are running in this configuration and see issues.

Tried to install Chromex and got a message that mia.lib is missing. Installation failed.

Hmm - interesting.

Give me some system and config details...

OS?
What version(s) of SSP were on the system at the time of install?

At what point did you get this message?

Thanks,

I have the latest version of SSP 7 installed (Workstation) and the 10/04/2013 version of SSP 8. The failure occurs during the install when the previous version is trying to be uninstalled.

Charlie,

I got your email - thanks for the info.

I replied with a suggestion to try the newest Chromex installer to see if that will work and also suggested based on the other bad behavior you mentioned that you manually un-install the old version of Chromex.

Let us know how this goes.

Thanks,

The solution to the problem was to totally uninstall and cleanup the previous version 7 Chromex and then reinstall from the Version 7 install and then update to Chromex version 2. Something must have been amiss with the version 7 Chromex install. Chromex version 2 install worked at last.

Is it still necessary to install Chromex separately from SSP8?

Gary,

Great question.

Yes it is still a separate installation.  It is available for download at the same location as the main installer and is reflected in the update check from the main toolbar of SongShow Plus.  This will detect available updates for both and allow downloads from there as well.

Thanks! I figured it was when I saw it next to the download, but wanted to besure before installing it.
