Version 7 > how do I use software at church and home?

Hi.  I'm new to this forum.  I've been using song show plus for about 6 months and it works great at the church.  The problem is, I do a lot of my work from home.  I downloaded the latest copy and it works fine.  I fun into trouble though, when I want to get the song database from the church computer onto my home computer.  I called tech support and the guy told me just to copy all the files onto my home computer  (C/program files/R-Technics/Song Show Plus) so I did that.  Still, no songs from the churches database in my database at home.  Whenever I try to import songs from song select lyric service it won't let me, when I try to import from "song select 3.0" it says "unable to import song.  Reason: Class is not registered.  Check to see that Song Select 3.0 is properly installed. So, what is song select 3.0.  We have a subscription to CCLI and like I said, everything at the church works great, I just can't get the thing working on my workstation at home.  Has anyone else had these problems?  Thanks
Dann

Song Select 3.0 is a seperate song database that CCLI used to sell. Too bad they quit. It's a great product and allows you to have several thousand songs on hand w/o downloading them.

Your church should have a CD and the annual registration codes (new codes each year as they renew their CCLI licenses) to install it. It is an installed app that SSP talks to, not just another database.

Once that is installed, you will need to rerun the SSP installation on your workstation so that the SongSelect 3.0 module gets installed.

I don't know about the legal ramifications of installing SongSelect 3.0 on two computers. But since one is just a workstation..... well I don't really want to speculate in a public forum. I'll leave it up to you to work out the moral/legal implications. Probably a quick call to CCLI would take care of that end of things. But I don't know.

I just know they don't sell the product anymore.

Hey!
Thanks for the quick response.  That answers a lot of my questions.  I took a look in the church's installation CDs and did not find song select in there.  You mentioned CCLI no longer sells this product.  Do you think they would have a copy on hand or a link to download it?  It looks like that is my problem.  For those who set up song show plus on a workstation as well as a projection- how do you get around this?  Is it possible to use this program without song select 3.0?  Looks like I'll be calling CCLI tomorrow.  Thanks for the help

I have a workstation at home but we don't use Song Select at our church. You should be able to copy the songs file from your church pc to a cd or usb drive and paste those files into the same folder on your worksatation. Then have SSP rebuild its indexes by clicking on Tools/Database Utilities... You can do this with individual songs, too.

SSP says this is not the best way to copy songs but it works great for me.

But if the songs are in the SongSelect database in the church computer, then it won't do any good.

SSP works fine w/o the SongSelect database. On your machine at home, go into Add/Remove programs and see if "Promodule: SongSelect 3.0 Support" is installed. If so, uninstall it.

While you are in Add/Remove programs, make sure that "Promodule: SongSelect Lyric Service Import" is installed. If not, rerun the SSP installer and make sure it gets selected to get installed. You will have to download any songs that you need to use or type them in.

Then, when you use package to go to move your programs from your home PC to the Church PC, it will pack up the songs from the SSP song database and install them in the church database. This may make duplicate entries in the Church song list, because any songs that were in the SongSelect 3.0 database will still be listed. But at least you'll be working.

Whoever installed your projection computer at church must have had the SongSelect 3.0 CD to install it. Hopefully it wasn't someone from another church trying to do you a favor and installing a copy of their database.

Hey guys,
Thanks again for the help. I honestly don't know who installed song select 3.0. This church has been through a few worship guys in the last few years. They are all long gone now and I only knew one of them. The last guy left all the software that is installed on the computer in a drawer, but I can't seem to locate song select. I will try it without, we've just done a lot of work within song select, so it will be a pain if we have to start all over. We'll see. Thanks again

Well, if you don't have the install disk, you won't be able to install it the next time yo9u upgrade your projection computer.

There is another thread about SongSelect 3.0 where a guy is trying to transition out of it. He may have some tips for you or he may be willing to sell his CD.

Check this thread.

We have used the SongSelect cd for 4 years, however were told by SongSelect that next year (2008) is the last year they will license it. Remember, each year you must renew your license or the you cannot access the songs. We are already starting to make the switch and will not renew our license in 2008. Joel is quite right, if the SongSelect cd is not installed on your home computer, you will not have access to those songs through package-to-go or by zipping and transferring the R-Technics folder from church to home.

That's a real kick in the head. Why don't they just give us the license to use it? We've been paying for it for enough years.

I wonder if we've been told that? This will be a real crimp on my ad hoc abilities on hymn sings. I've impressed several folks, that normally wouldn't be impressed with projection at all, with my ability to pull up all kinds of hymns.

I wonder if we could come up with a batch process to pull them over into an SSP database?
