The Wave Pool > Forum (SSPlash.com) problems?

There was some recent discussion about some people experiencing lag problems with this forum and the text editor in it.  So, I wanted to start a topic to discuss this and any other issues that you find wrong with this site.

According to my research, it seems that the lag is much better, if not completely fixed.  So, I'd like to know if any of you are still having lag problems.  If so, the main questions I have for you are: What web browser are you using? and How fast is your internet connection?

I did make some significant changes in the way the entire SSPlash site is rendered to the screen, but I won't expand on that unless there are specific questions.  Hopefully it resolved the problem.

One known issue is the fact that clicking on the smilies in FireFox doesn't post them in the message.  I am trying to see if this is fixable.  For now, if you want to add a smiley, hold your mouse over the one you want and it will show a pop-up with the keyboard text needed to type the smiley in your message.  Hope this helps.

The forum has seemed slow again today when posting, both bringing up the editor and submitting the post.

Of course, now this screen came up fine, so I'm not sure what's up.

UPDATE: the edit screen comes up ok. But when I click submit, it takes 30 seconds or so to complete. With my other postings today, the entry screens took a while to come up.

Posting is still REALLY, REALLY SLOW!

At least it is here in FireFox land.

Foretunatly, because I'm using FireFox, I just go to some of my other tabs, check the current Woot!, email, whatever, while the post posts.

Osborn,

Interesting!  I'm not sure what is causing that.  From everything I have seen it seems to be working better.  Have these problems been on the same computer each time?  This editor is working perfectly for me right now, and it loaded very quickly.  If there's any more specific information you can give me, that would be great!  Thanks

Right now, I'm at work behind a firewall, going through a proxy .

I'll try at home and see if it's better.

Well, here I am at home, FireFox, Win2000, Zone Alarm.

Let's see how this goes.

Edit: Yep. This is much faster. I don't know what's going on at work. I follow other forums during the day and don't see the kind of lag I see with this one.

And it was much better for a while, also. At l thought I had experienced the speed up at work.

Is there a way you could make more differentiation between posts? Like an alternating background color?

In  my eye, they kinda all run together.

Also, being able to click on a thread and have it open to my first unread entry in that thread would be really useful, now that we got some real conversations going here.

It would also be helpful if the "last post" was correct.  Instead of it listing the person who made the last post, it lists the person who originated the post.  I know other forums have this feature and it is useful too.

That's quite some turn-around time, Reid!

That is much easier on the eyes.

I'm getting an oddity in firefox 1.0.6

I tried to quote a post to reply to it. The post showed up in the body, in the little box, but disappear. And whenever I typed an apostrophe ' it would active firefox search (cntl-f). :confued:

Oh, it is probably another issue with your computer, he he!  Let me try too.  I'm typing an apostrophe with no problems and using Firefox.  Let me try to post this . . .

Hmmm, did this work?  Of course sometimes I mess up on the quotes anyways . . .
