In over a month there has only been topics added here by support -- nothing from
users. I've been a SSP fan since the early days of Fowler and have benefited
greatly from the help, suggestions, and technical advice from the users in the
forums. There was a time when bugs & suggested changes where handled
(pro or con) almost immediately. All that has changed and it seems that SSP
has, perhaps, "flat-lined." I just went on-line and checked for reviews of church
projection software and couldn't even find a mention of SSP. In 15 years it has
gone from, essentially, the only church projection software to the best software
to a non-entity. It looks like I had better "bite the bullet" and learn a new
system. Am I being too pessimistic? Will any other program do all that SSP does?
I'd like to hear from some of you that are advanced users. I'm hoping for
a light at the end of the tunnel!

I, too, have been using SSP since V1 or V2. I like what it does. I don't use many of the newer features like Stage Monitor. I have discovered few things which may be new in 8.4. For instance, our screens are 3x4. Most of the videos we use are 16x9 or 16x10. If there is not text at the edges of the wide screen video, I crop it to 3x4. Fills the screen, avoiding the black bars. BTW, I recently installed projectors at another church and they were using a competing product. It seemed to hang up a lot.

I too have been here a while, but only since 5.3 days. Our church is pretty traditional, and we don't use a lot of the new features, so I have only updated when needed. Although, I am interested in some of the new features in 8.5, especially the Mac (for the Pastors) version of Artisan.

I hate to say this, as I am not a fan of Apple Products, but not having a Mac version is probably holding SSP back from becoming the leader again. It seems a lot of new and "growing" churches have too much money to spend on computers, and are buying Macs. Since SSP doesn't have a Mac version, they are losing out to other vendors.

I will only switch to something else, kicking and screaming. I am too used to SSP, and wouldn't want to learn a new product and then be unhappy because it doesn't do things I am used to doing with SSP. I would also be upset at the money spent on a new product when we already have a very good (the best???) program.

Thanks for the replies. BTW, Gary, I'm 6 posts (now 7, I guess) ahead of you. Probably only Joel is ahead of us!

I've been using since Fowler as well, I think I started with 4.2.

And we have watched your title change and become more impressive over the years -
does that mirror an increase in pay ??
We have seen lots of changes in  SSP over the years:
mostly for the better, a few not so hot.
This forum has been the first of my browser bookmarks,
but now is largely, and disappointingly, inactive.
One thing is certain - things change!
