Version 8.0 > PowerPoint Importer - Catastrophic Failure

We use the PowerPoint files for the United Methodist Hymnal. Because the backgrounds are limited and quite truthfully not too impressive I have been bringing them into the SSP Song library.
The PC is running Windows 7 and Office 2007. It is running an Intel Core 7 with 8GB memory.
I installed SSP 8 earlier this week and today started to bring in the songs for this Sunday. The first one I did went without a problem, however when I went to import the second one the program reported a catastrophic failure. I opened the event viewer in the control panel to see if there were any messages.I didn't see any for the time of the failure. I did see some Chromex error messages at an earlier time. It was reporting a video filter problem with both avi and mpg files.
Since I still had SSP 7 installed I was able to import the song using the PowerPoint Importer, close SSP7, start SSP 8, and edit the song I had imported with SSP 7.
Using SSP7 is a acceptable temporary fix.

I like the new format of the importer. Because the verse uses several slides I have to create a name 'Verse 1b'. When I used SSP8 I was happy to see it remembered the new names and I didn't have to manually enter them.

I do have two minor problems.
1. Because I use these files weekly they are stored in the 'Slide Show' file directory. With the new format I didn't see that directory available. The only way to get there would be to click on the 'C:' drive and then work my way through Users> Public> Public Documents> R-Technics> Song Show Plus> Slide Shows> ... It would be nice to have Slide Shows available without have to go through clicking my way down to it.
2. That brings the next item in that in both SSP 7 and SSP 8 it does not remember where you have been. Each time you look for the file to import you have to browse down to it. I am doing the conversion from .ppt to SSP Song Database so have to do 2-3 each week.

Tim,

I was looking at what you had described and initially thought I had replicated but have not.  I did run into a PPT that would not import but I did not get catastrophic failure - it just stated that it was not able to read the PPT.

I will continue to investigate.  Please try this again with a few different PPT and make sure this is not file specific.

as far as your other comments:

We may need to add the slides to the folder/path list here.

as far as remembering the last location I think most paths are supposed to do that.  Please give me your specific steps and I will check that path.
