Greetings!  Does version 8 still need H.264 plug in for alternate video format playback?  And what video formats are compatible w/version 8? Thanks!

Yes - the H.264 plug-in is still required.

H.264 support is unchanged in Version 8.

Hey George, I noticed in Settings>Audio and Video File that it says "If you have installed your own set of A/V codecs on this system, and you wish to use those to play A/V files from within Songshow Plus" you can choose Option B to do so. But are you saying this won't apply to H.264, even if you have the proper 3rd party codecs to run it?

That is a fair point so let me clarify....

We recommend keeping the system as clean as possible with respect to A/V codecs.

For H.264 to be supported in SSP one must use the SSP H.264 plug-in and use the default Option A settings.

If users want to try something else on their own, they can try their own installs and choose option B but since we don't test everything out there we can not support this configuration.  If it works, great, if not we can't really help much.

Also regarding your mention of "proper 3rd party codecs" - what specifically are you referring to?

The following links provide some information on this:

http://www.songshowplus.com/UserGui...videos.htm
http://www.songshowplus.com/UserGui...ttings.htm

What isn't particularly clear in either of this links, however, is that the H.264 plug-in that is provided for use with SongShow Plus will not be used if you select Option B for video codecs. This is because option B uses system registered components. The H.264 plug-in for SongShow Plus is not registered for system use.

Thanks for the reply, I often get confused when the word "supported" is used as it tends to mean to me that the program can use it, whether or not technical support will be offered when dealing with it.

When I say proper, I mean that the codecs are well recognized and work in other important players like Windows Media Player. For me, we've found k-lite codec packs to work well though some people might complain about them. I can confirm that we were able to play an h.264 mp4 this past Sunday for the first time through SSP8 while using the settings I mentioned above. This is a great feature and makes SSP8 a little more attractive.
