Version 8.0 > Fonts not rendering

Just made the switch to SSP8.

In slide builder, some fonts render in the edit box, but when I click out, on the slide display, it shows a plain font, Arial or some such. This also occurs when it is projected.

I didn't do an exhaustive study, but I remember that Garage Shock Condensed did this. http://best-font.com/font/GarageShockCondensed5252.html

AR Darling worked appropriately. http://www.fonts2u.com/ar-darling.font

This version of SSP8, I just downloaded last weekend, so I believe it to be current.

How did you install these fonts. Did they come with another software package or did you install them directly?

I installed them I downloaded them, unzipped them, then right clicked and selected install.

These are fonts that I've used for yeas.

Thanks.

Also, when I'm editing a text box, only the bottom half of the fonts show, almost like the line spacing is too small or something.

Hi Joel,

I think we will want to take a look at this.  We have seen a couple instances of font issues when the fonts were installed with a software package and are not behaving as expected in SSP.

First off I assume that these are TrueType fonts you are using - correct?

The interesting part may be how they were installed.

If you go to the C:\Windows\Fonts directory and find the font in question, what does its icon look like?  Is there a "shortcut" arrow on it?

Do you have other fonts that you installed that do work as expected?

Let me know what you find and we may need to do a remote to look further.

Yes. The AR Darling I mentioned above works fine.

I'll have to check on whether the font is a shortcut.

Any idea on the line spacing in edit mode?

We did have a recent development in the Font issues.  Take a look at this KB and see if that fixes the issue.  If it does please report back so I can add it to the list....

As far as the line spacing, I am not clear what you are talking about.  That might need to go to the support team so they can see and report exactly what you are seeing.

I'll take a look when I get a change. And I'll try to post some screen shots so you can see what I'm talking about with the line spacing in the edit window.

Joel (and George),

I am experiencing the same experience you are describing, Joel, with fonts we used commonly with SSP 7.  One notable one is Braddon.

I just read the KB item you posted, George, and will try those ideas when I get back to the booth.

As far as my method of installing files, I basically open FONTS in Control Panel on my workstation, copy the ones I want to a folder on my flash drive, copy from the flash drive to the desktop of my projection computer, open FONTS in Control Panel on that computer and either copy and paste or drag and drop the fonts there.

This method always worked with SSP 7.

Joel (and George), I did go back to our projection computer and another workstation computer to see if the the fix mentioned in the kb suggested by George would work.  It did.  Here's what I observed.

When I look at the font icons in the FONTS folder in Control Panel, most are OK, but there will be the occasional one that has a mathematical-type symbol displayed on the icon rather than a sample of the font.  Those appear to be the fonts which will not display correctly unless the style assignment is manipulated.  In the case of Braddon, the font I mentioned in my other message, I found that I could get the font to display correctly in the slide if I applied both Bold and Italic styles to it.  It took separate steps to apply the two styles, before it would display.

I tried the same approach on some other fonts that were behaving hinky, and it worked for those, too.

That may be something that the programmers will want to fix, but there is at least a workaround.

Thanks Dave,

Can you give me a list of the fonts that you observed this bad behavior on and the style that had to be applied please?

I checked the one you specifically mentioned (Braddon) via download since it is not a "standard" font.

I found that the one I downloaded called "Braddon Regular" (from fontpalace) worked as expected.  I also found that I was able to successfully apply both the Bold and Italic treatment and it worked as expected.

Where did you get your font from and is it specifically labeled bold or italic?  I did a search and did not come across a True Type version of Braddon that was not "Regular".

Please elaborate and send me the others that you have found this behavior on.

I am having the same issue with the Gulim font and several others (Harlow Solid Italic, Brush Script MT, BatangChe - to name a few). What to do?

Garry,

Some of these can be addressed by simply setting the treatment that they expect.

Check out KB TS255 for some details.

There are others, like Gulim, that we are not sure why it does not work, so there is no work around at this time.
