I see 3 bars, SSP7, nVidea and FireFox.

Did you fix them, or did they magically start working?

Lucas

Interesting. I see all 3 of yours and all 4 of mine. And that was yesterday on IE and today in Firefox.

I wonder if you need to refresh your browser cache?

Hi all,

I must be missing the point here with these userbars that have started popping up - I guess we can ASSUME you use SSP, since you are here, and I'm not sure I care what browser or CPU or GPU you are using.
They do waste some screen space and mean we all have to scroll further to get through the messages - is that really what we want on this forum?

If it's just for fun, then fine - you guys have them if you like, but seriously....is there a way I can turn them off?

(P.S. before you jump on me as a spoilsport, I have RSI so ANY extra scrolling is a big deal for me.)

OK I just re-read my post AFTER breakfast and a cup of tea, and I guess it is a BIT more grumpy than I intended. Apologies to anyone who really likes userbars and thinks they are really cool. Just go right ahead - hey, I'm the one who sticks his big ugly mug up beside each post so I guess I can't complain about 'customisations'.

Sorry.

Dave

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
And hey it's not a BIG deal

The idea is for them to be small (and load fast), but be eye catching.

The better idea for the SSP userbar is to advertise the fact that your are an SSP7 user in other forums. But it's a good courtesy (and some request it) that you reciprocate. In other words, if you promote something in thier forum, you should promote their forum in other forums. thus my set.

I've thought about substituting my SSP userbar in this forum, but there are still version 5 and earlier users. So I wanted to advertise the fact that I am on version 7.

Some folks will create on animated userbar that scrolls between userbars for them. But then you can't have links for folks to click and check out the items mentions.

Over at churchmedia.net, Tim has set the standard of no more than 8 userbars and few go that far. However, I've seen one user that has 1 static and 3 animated userbars, each with 10 bars in them.

Here are two favorites of mine:

and

Sorry about the extra scrolling. Sometimes I'm on a 768 x 1024 tablet and get very sensitive to horizontal scrolling, so I know where you are coming form.

As for turning them off, you'd either have to turn off all images, or the BBS software would need to provide an option to block images from signatures, or something like that.

I can't view the image. I get a message about direct links not available.

But your userbars do look fine from here.

Well Lucas, I found your problem.  I logged in this morning and looked at this thread for some reason and it was as you were saying before.  The SSP bar was showing up but the other three were not.  So, I checked the source location of your images and noticed that they were all links to images located on http://www.usersigs.com.  So, I figured that somehow their server was down and the images really couldn't be found.  So, I tried accessing their home page and it to could not be found.  So, it is their server problem.  I would suggest that you find some other place to host the userbars you are using.  I'd suggest http://www.imageshack.us or http://www.photobucket.com.

Mine have disappeared as well, with no tinkering on my part.

I say we just blame Reid and not worry about it.

Looks like html is getting stripped out of the footers.

Except for Reid's userbar and the SSP userbar.

Well that settles it.

Blame Reid

At least there is a logical explaination

Even the SSP userbar does not display

It just auto deletes itself

Well...it looks like I need to monitor these forums better if people are going to go around blaming me for everything and I never even knew it.    I am looking into this problem as it seems to have spread to many areas of the text editor that is used on ssplash.com.  Sorry I haven't been around these forums much lately, I've been quite consumed with other projects and tasks.  Hopefully I'll get this whole html editing problem fixed once and for all.

If you want to know my suggestion for making images and other tags show up correctly.  I would suggest clicking the "HTML" tab on the editor instead of the "Design" tab and use strict html for all your editing.
