Version 7 > Thanks, bugs and feature requests...

I just wanted to say a big thanks to whoever it was that came up with the 'clone and edit' feature.  That's going to be a huge help, because we clone all of our songs (with our CCLI number, we only need one number displayed in Australia for all songs) from a base one.

A small bug with this though, is that it doesn't seem to have copied the CCLI number.  Actually, that's not quite right, because it's there in the song.  But, it's not displayed on screen as those which were simply cloned and then edited separately.  I searched around for a quite a while to make sure I didn't have any display properties overriding it, and found nothing that would explain it.  Can someone please test this?  If it works, then I'll have to go back and have another look.

I'd also like to thank whoever fixed the bug which would open the dialog for loading in a Powerpoint (from the song edit screen, to copy the words from it) on the second monitor, because that was something I was about to report.  The question for me is- was it actually fixed, or did I somehow trigger something in the system which stopped it from happening?

An improvement for this is for the Powerpoint chooser to also recognise .pps files as well as .ppt, without me having to select 'all files'.

Something I'd love to see fixed is when changing a computer with Songshow to a single monitor system (to do work at home without the second monitor).  Songshow changes its graphical settings, so when I take the computer back to the dual monitor setup, Songshow displays on the second screen until I tell it not to.  It's not a disaster or anything, but it's quite confusing if you're not familiar with it happening.

Another thing I'd love to see added is a way to insert blank slides into the middle of a song.  The reason why is because we run all of our songs with each one adjusting to be as large on screen as possible.  Often I have to cut and paste songs into pieces to try and get the text size right (a too long line of text makes for small words, etc).  Not only could I do with some kind of ruler system in the lyric pages, but a way of shifting pages around and adding in blank ones would make things much easier.  Possibly the best thing would be having a ruler line which would automatically wrap the text past that point, and a font size setting which the text couldn't get larger than on screen... or something to that effect.

I hope the above is clear.  I realise there's a wish list, but I thought I'd run these things by on this forum first.

Also, the forum login doesn't work under the Opera browser ;)

For breaking songs verses onto multiple screens, there are three methods.

1) The method you are using, where you copy parts of verses into multiple verses.

2) edit the song and put a page break (cntl-return) where you want the break. The, in the lyric display properties, choose the page by page option, instead of a verse at a time, from the dropdown box.

3) Choose Maximum lines per screen from the same dropdown box and set the number to whatever works for that song. I usually end up with 4.

Of course you still have to break the lines manually, if you want to control that. However, in one of the lyric control screens, there is a check box to turn on Word Wrap. Sometimes that works with the layout of the song. Sometimes it doesn't. You just have to experiment with it.

For the blank screen, some folks put a blank space in one of the bridges or choruses that isn't in use, and use that for the blank screen.

However, you can also hop over to the Wish list and place your vote for Blank Slides in Songs along with other items you may wish to see included in future SSP evolutions.

I'm in Perth

Thanks for the tips osborn4 (I wasn't aware of that), but that doesn't quite give me what I'm after. The way we work is by using only verses, and jumping back and fourth between them. Our worship is fully organic, so we can go from slide 3 to 5 and back, and then into the middle of another song. So, I like the convenience of being able to set things up on one slide, but it doesn't allow for the right control.

That's why there's options. The flexibility here is one of SSPs strengths.

We find it confusing to have the worship leader say "Skip to verse 5" when verse 5 is actually chorus 1, because all 5 verses had to be split into 2 verses.

I'm glad you've come up with a setup that works in your services.

Your request about the blank slide is already on the wish list so I encourage you to go there and cast your vote. Also, submit any other ideas you don't see listed.
