Version 8.3 > Edge blend/blur not working in vs. 8.3??

When I try to use the Edge Blend or Blur I get a dark color in the blend/blur region.
Of course this defeats the purpose of the effect. Making the slide in vs. 7 and using
it in vs. 8.3 works OK. This, along with pan/zoom are two of my most used effects -
now both are botched up. Ugh

GoFish solved this problem --- the default shadow is applied to this effect!!
Go to properties/shadow and turn off the shadow. An easy fix which is not
obvious, nor should it be necessary
