Working with PhotoShop Artists

In a recent post, I discussed how I added a bit of life to a static image by applying animated lighting to the text. This was a slide that was built in PhotoShop. I requested from the artist that she send me each of the layers as separate images. Doing this allowed me to apply the animated effect to just the text without affecting the background.

A question came up asking why I chose to use the PNG images (saved from the PhotoShop layers) rather than using text objects. At the time it didn't really occur to me because I expected that our artist did more than simply place text on the slide. I can show now that was actually the case.

In the image below, you will see the upper text as it was from the PhotoShop layer. Below it, is the same text, only this time it's an actual text object using the same font.

As you can see, there are significant differences between the two. Our artist obviously put some effort into adjusting letter heights and positioning. SongShow Plus does not presently provide kerning capabilities. There is also bit of glow applied to the upper text, an effect that isn't really available in SongShow Plus selection of effects at this time. Until these features are available, the capability of SongShow Plus to layer images is very helpful for working with PhotoShop artists.
