Feature Preview: Enabling/Disabling Effects Layers

6/2/2009  < Previous  Next >

One of the new features in the May 2009 Edition of SongShow Plus gives you the capability to enable and disable effects layers. With SongShow Plus, you can specify multiple layers of effects for any object (image, video, etc.). Previously, if you wanted to see how something looked without one of the layers, you had to go in and remove it. Now you have to option to simply disable the layer if you wish.

This is particularly handy if you are experimenting with different effects and need to try something, undo it, try it again in a slightly different way, or in a slightly different combination with other effects.

As an example, I'll show demonstrate toggling between two different hue effects without actually removing them.

Below shows the display properties for a song with a selected background image:

(1)

As you can see, in the Effects panel, there are two hue layers. You'll notice, however, that there is a checkbox next to these layers, and they are both unchecked. This image is being shown in its original state.

Next, the first layer is now checked:

You can see what hue settings were used for this effect.

And now to compare it with a different hue setting:

This examples used just two effects layers, but feature can be use for larger sets of effects making it much easier for you to experiement with various cominations of effects layers.

This will be very handy when showing/teaching someone how to do some of this stuff.

I don't know how many times I've had to deconstruct a background and then reconstruct it to show someone exactly what I did. This will be much easier.

If I deselect, say, the entire motion background, will it retain all the settings when I reselect it?

This, specifically, is about selecting/deselecting effects layers, not background layers.
