In Action: Capital Christian Center

A few months ago, I snapped some pictures at Capital Christian Center, Meridian, Idaho (Boise area). Capital Christian Center uses two separate projection systems. One is for IMAG with the lyrics overlaid in a lower-third. The second projection system is used as lighting and visual effect that splashes behind the worship team.

Below are a couple of screen shots showing the sanctuary.

As you can see, IMAGE and lyrics are at the sides, and the effects projection is in the center. Captial Christian Center frequently changes the platform layout and often makes use of HD plasma screens as well.

Here is a shot of the control room.

There are redundant SongShow Plus machines to the left used to present the song lyrics. This machine is also used for slide show presentation.

The SongShow Plus machine used for the effects video is located in the tech booth in the worship center.

The operator has a set of videos pre-arranged for each song, but operates those videos independent of lyrics operator, much like one would use Background Improv on a single projection system.

The church uses HD screens, but the video system is actually SD, and uses 16:9 SD cameras. The SongShow Plus machines are set to 16:9 resolution even though their monitors are 4:3. The lighting fixtures they use are Martin 250 intelligent lights and Elation Xcelon 575 fixed lights.

They are presently testing the SongShow Plus DeckLink plug-in with their system, which initial tests have shown to provide an excellent quality shadowed-text-over-live-video. Just working through a few hardware bugs at this point.

The media presentation at Capital Christain Center has come along ways in the last few years and is a great model for those who'd like to make the most of what technology has to offer for a worship service. Much of the credit for this goes to my business partner, Ken Holsinger, who has serviced in both staff and consultant roles at the church. (Ken is presently COO of Unity Media Group as well as a principle member of GoFishMedia). Today, the media operations are coordinated by Marcus Hackler who is Director of Media and Communication, and who has become quite skilled at video directing and editing (click on his name for his blog site featuring his videos). Marcus can be reached at marcus@capitalchristian.com.

(BTW, these pictures were taken on a cheap point-and-shoot camera -- sorry)
