Feature Review: Mobile Control, Background Improv

3/11/2011

I recently introduced the new Mobile Control feature in SongShow Plus. Continuing with the review of this new feature I will now discuss the Background Improv interface for iPad, iPod, and similar devices.

The Background Improv feature was introduced to SongShow Plus back when version 7 was first released. I discussed it back at the time. This feature lets you control the background of the display screen independently of the songs or slides being presented. One challenge to using this feature, however, is the multi-tasking mindset required to manage both the background and foreground content.

With the Mobile Control interface, you can now assign the background control task to someone else. This means on person is controlling the foreground content, and another person is controlling the background content!

Here is a screen shot from the iPad interface:

This shows the contents of an image folder containing some Digital Juice abstract backgrounds. To tell Background Improv to display one of the images, you simply tap the image. It's as easy as that. Additional images can be accessed by scrolling to the bottom of the web page.

Background Improv can also be controlled using the smaller iPod. Here is a screen shot of the same folder:

These interfaces also work on a at least a few of the Android OS devices that we've tested including various Droid phones and the Nook Color. (We have not tested the interfaces on Windows Mobile 7 as of yet and early testing shows that the interfaces are not compatible with the new Xoom.)

If you use Background Improv in your services, the new Background Improv Mobile Control interface may just be a handy tool for you!
