Looking Back: In the beginning…
In the beginning…of SongShow Plus, that is…there was just an empty code editor, and a dream of what could be. But why was I sitting at my computer, contemplating that first opening window of the application that would come to be known as SongShow Plus? Capital Christian Center (CCC), a Boise area church of which I was a member, began planning the installation of projection equipment in its newly constructed worship facility. It was the fall of 1995.
At the time I served weekly on CCC’s worship team as a keyboardist and pianist. Our worship style was Spirit-led, contemporary and spontaneous. The worship leader would typically draw up the song list after a prayer meeting with less than an hour to go before the service. Not that the list meant that much. It was a general guide, but deviating from that guide was the norm.
The automatic assumption of the spearheading committee was to use PowerPoint to project song lyrics. However, I knew that the linear nature of PowerPoint would not be ideal for our needs. Being a professional programmer, I decided to dive in and take a crack at building an application that would better suit our needs.
