Mobile Control (PWA) - Best Practices for Setup

Applicable SongShow Plus Versions:  
This article applies to SongShow Plus 9.2 and Later using SongShow Mobile Control (PWA).

The mobile control feature for SongShow Plus has been reworked for version 9.2 and, fundamentally, it’s a significant change. The function of Mobile Control is still the same - controlling a SongShow Plus program from somewhere other than the machine running SongShow Plus. This new method is more flexible than previous versions.

When using the PWA Mobile Control use the following Best Practices for the most consistent results.  Setups can be modified for a variety of reasons, but this is the best place to start.

• Review the Mobile Control (PWA) - A Primer article first.
• Regardless of the device type, it should be set to avoid going to sleep. Device sleep may cause the connection to be lost.
• Device Orientation - Landscape will allow for the best view.  Smaller devices may need to be rotated to access menus.
• Recommended Mobile Control settings in SongShow Plus
  • To access the Mobile Control settings in SongShow Plus:
    • Start with the main toolbar in SSP
    • Select Settings > Mobile Control...
    • Enabled -  Set to Yes
    • HTTP Port - Leave at default port - 55000   
    • Machine Registration - Set to recommended setting - Register this machine using the default address  
    • Allow Anonymous Access - Set to Yes   
    • Anonymous Access Token - Leave this field blank  
• Recommended device Browser settings
  • JavaScript must be enabled (Site sign in)
  • Popup blocker disabled
  • Reading Viewer disabled
  • Avoid DNS/VPN tools/browser extensions on devices - this may affect the ability to find the host machine.
  • NOTE: if you have tried to connect before changing these settings, may be necessary to clear your browser history/website data to connect as expected.
