Applicable SongShow Plus Versions:
This article applies to all versions of SongShow Plus

 * Ensure that you are using the most current build of SongShow Plus from the Download page for the best experience. *

In addition to the information noted in other articles, we make the following general recommendations regarding media housekeeping in SongShow Plus:

Media files can tend to accumulate over time.  While having many choices for media to use with SongShow Plus can allow for creative presentations, too much media can cause issues of both management and speed. This can also make moving SongShow Plus to a different machine or preparing for catastrophic failures more cumbersome with overly large backups required.

For the best result, we recommend that you periodically clean up your media files, locating media that is dated or no longer relevant to delete from the SongShow Plus database.  This includes not only typical media such as Images, Videos and Audio Tracks but also Slideshows, Programs or other files that are no longer relevant. There are other articles for specific help with other file types.

Tips for selecting Files to Clean-up

  • Look for files that are not in the preferred resolution/format for removal.
  • Look for files that are more than a few years old for removal.
  • Look for files that are duplicates for removal.
  • Look for files that are not in the correct folder for removal.
    • SSP will only show the supported file types in a given Media Files panel. Sometimes incorrect or unrelated file types get manually placed in the wrong location, such as a video file in the image folder.  This may cause issues with both search and speed of population of files.

Tips for File Removal

  • If you only have a few files to remove that are showing up in a particular Media Files panel, you can select the desired file, right-click and select the Delete... option from the menu. This will give you the option to send to Recycle or permanently delete it.
  • If you have several files to remove that are showing up in a particular Media Files panel, you can select the folder the files are in, right-click and select the Explore option from the menu.  This will open the folder in Windows File Explorer and allow you to delete many files at once.  Once you complete this you should refresh the folder view in SSP or restart.

Following these guidelines for your SongShow Plus system should contribute to trouble-free use.
