Song import or creation using tools other than SongSelect > Clipboard - PPT - Word - PDF - RTF - Text - XML

Songs are an integral part of SongShow Plus and can be projected as a stand-alone item or in a complete worship program.  Getting song into SongShow Plus is done in 3 main ways - Importing from SongSelect, manually typing them in from scratch or importing them from another document resource.  The focus of this article is the last option.

The options to add songs to SongShow Plus can be found by accessing the Create or Acquire from... menu of the Media Files > Songs tab.

In each of the cases below the general steps are the same:

  1. Determine the source of the song text.
  2. Choose the corresponding import method.
  3. Select the destination database if prompted.
  4. Use the type specific steps below to access the text in the document.
  5. Once the text is displayed in the importer, select and assign the text to the relevant song component using the Set Text For > options, for example:
    1. Select the title text and click the Title button to add the title.
    2. Select the Chorus text and click the Chorus button to add the title.
  6. Continue this process until all text is added to the song.
  7. Click the Import button to complete the process.

The following methods are available to import songs into SongShow Plus:

  • Clipboard
    • This method can be used to copy most any text that is on the Windows clipboard.  This may primarily be used when copying blocks of text from a browser page or other web-based document.
      • Locate and select the document that has the text you want to copy. 
      • Copy it to the Windows clipboard.
      • From the Create or Acquire from... menu select Clipboard.
      • Proceed with the import.
  • Microsoft PowerPoint Importer
    • This method can be used to import text from Microsoft PowerPoint.  Microsoft PowerPoint must be installed on the local machine for this to work.
      • Acquire the document that has the text you want to copy.  Best practice is to have it copied to the local machine.
      • From the Create or Acquire from... menu select Microsoft PowerPoint Importer.
      • Locate the document on the local machine and click Select.
      • Proceed with the import.
  • Microsoft Word Importer
    • This method can be used to import text from Microsoft Word.  Microsoft Word must be installed on the local machine for this to work.
      • Acquire the document that has the text you want to copy.  Best practice is to have it copied to the local machine.
      • From the Create or Acquire from... menu select Microsoft Word Importer.
      • Locate the document on the local machine and click Select.
      • Proceed with the import.
  • PDF Importer
    • This method can be used to import text from a PDF file.  This should work with most PDFs.
      • Acquire the document that has the text you want to copy.  Best practice is to have it copied to the local machine.
      • From the Create or Acquire from... menu select PDF Importer.
      • Locate the document on the local machine and click Select.
      • Proceed with the import.
  • RTF Importer
    • This method can be used to import text from a RTF (Rich Text Format) document. 
      • Acquire the document that has the text you want to copy.  Best practice is to have it copied to the local machine.
      • From the Create or Acquire from... menu select RTF Importer.
      • Locate the document on the local machine and click Select.
      • Proceed with the import.
  • Text Importer
    • This method can be used to import text from a text document.
      • Acquire the document that has the text you want to copy.  Best practice is to have it copied to the local machine.
      • From the Create or Acquire from... menu select Text Importer.
      • Locate the document on the local machine and click Select.
      • Proceed with the import.
  • XML Document
    • This method can be used to import text from an XML document. This must be a properly formatted XML document. See this article for details.
      • Acquire the document that has the text you want to copy.  Best practice is to have it copied to the local machine.
      • From the Create or Acquire from... menu select XML Importer.
      • Locate the document on the local machine and click Open.
      • Proceed with the import.
