SongShow Plus Preferences - A Primer

SongShow Plus has a variety of preferences available that control both the look and feel of SongShow Plus as well as how it behaves in certain situations.  There are many common and useful settings, such as themes and opening screen behavior, along with a few legacy and obscure ones like mouse double click behavior.  

All of the Preferences options in SongShow Plus can be found by accessing Settings > Preferences from the main toolbar.  Many of the options can also be accessed from a panel or location where they are applied.  Try right-clicking in panels or selecting the gear icon to open any related Preferences settings for a particular panel or toolbar.

The following settings are available in SongShow Plus Preferences. The level of detail in these descriptions may vary depending on how important they are. Additional details can be found by actually opening and reviewing the Preferences settings. The default setting will be noted below.

• Ctrl-P 
  • This setting is for the print behavior when using the CTRL-P key combination for Songs and Programs.
    • Depending on the cursor location and the setting, either the selected item with print or the entire list will print. 
    • The default setting is to print the selected item.
      
• Double Click  
  • This setting determines if SongShow Plus is checking for mouse double click operations.
    • This is mostly useful for single display configurations and is rarely used.
    • The default setting is NOT Checked.
• Global Gaussian Blur 
  • This setting determines if and how SongShow Plus will apply a Gaussian Blur.
    • This is mostly useful for text smoothing on very large screens but can have other applications to smooth edges of shapes as well.
    • The default setting is Never enabled for both Text and Shapes.
• Media Files
  • This setting determines if and how SongShow Plus will handle the use or import of media when used in a slide or background.
    • It is possible to set options to reference or embed media and also to import if located external to the SSP database.
    • The default setting is Always Ask.
• Mix Case
  • This setting determines if SongShow Plus will change the case of specific words in songs.
    • This is useful for determining how to treat certain words in songs when adjusting the case treatments. Using All upper, lower or mixed case.
    • The default settings are lists of common words that should and should not be made upper case. The user can edit these as needed.
• Mouse Cursor
  • This setting determines if and when SongShow Plus will show the mouse cursor if it is moved over a projected Output Window.
    • This is mostly useful for single display configurations and is rarely used.
    • The default setting is to only be visible if the mouse is moved.
• Mute/Clear Display
  • This setting determines the transition time for the Mute and Clear functions in SongShow Plus.
    • When the Mute and Clear functions are executed, there will be an associated fade transition time.
    • The default setting is 0.50 seconds.
• On-line resources
  • This setting determines if SongShow Plus is checking for the latest new updates.
    • This is useful for getting info on updates bug fixes and the like.
    • The default setting is Checked.
• Opening Screen
  • This setting determines what SongShow Plus shows on the projected output when it is initially started.
    • This can be used for setting a default opening screen such as an organization logo, blank slide or other image.
    • The default setting is the SSP Logo.
• Presenter Window
  • This setting is primarily for selecting the SongShow Plus theme and also includes so text size settings.
    • This allows the user to select one of 10 themes (7 dark, 3 light) for the Presenter Control panel and set the font size of the Media and Inspector panel text and the toolbar hints.
    • The default Theme setting is Dark Carbon. The default font size is 10 point. Toolbar hints default is Checked.
• Program Panel 
  • This section contains several settings that control the way the Program Panel itself behaves as well as how things added to the Program Panel behave.
    • Listed below are the settings and their defaults. 
      • Automatically save the program when changes are made - No
      • Open the previous program when SongShow Plus starts - No
      • Open the Slide Properties window when adding songs and scripture - Yes
      • Open the Verse Order Selection window when adding songs - Yes
      • Open the Audio Track Selection window when adding songs with preset audio tracks - Yes
      • the Program Panel automatically follows the current program step - No
      • Show verses/slides that are not included in the verse/slide order - No
      • Show Properties Button for presentable items - Yes
      • Show program item titles using bold text - Yes
      • Text Size slider - Default setting is 10 point
      • Show Quick List - Default setting is Yes.  This is a legacy feature that is not as useful as it used to be - No is recommended.
      • Show Cued List - Default setting is Yes.  This is a legacy feature that is not as useful as it used to be - No is recommended.
      • Program Name Template
        • This is a drop menu selection for different default naming formats that include title/date/time components.

• Scripture Media Control
  
  • This section contains several settings that determine how Scripture slides appear in the Media Control panel of  SongShow Plus.
    • Listed below are the settings and their defaults:
      
      • Show - The default setting is Preview slides.
      • Arrange Preview Image - The default setting is use default slide order.
      • Layout - The default setting is Wrap.
      • Auto Scroll - The default setting is View.
      • Preview Height - The default setting is 200 px.
      • Show text preview - The default setting is Yes.
• Service Items 
  • This section contains a list of available Service Items that can be inserted in a SongShow Plus Program.
    • The default list contains several common service items.
    • The Service Items list can be edited here by adding or deleting content and clicking Save.
• Service Sections 
  • This section contains a list of available Service Sections that can be inserted in a SongShow Plus Program.
    • The default list contains several common service sections.
    • The Service Sections list can be edited here by adding or deleting content and clicking Save.
• Slide Show Media Control
  
  • This section contains several settings that determine how Slide Show slides appear in the Media Control panel of  SongShow Plus.
    • Listed below are the settings and their defaults:
      
      • Show - The default setting is Preview slides.
      • Arrange Preview Image - The default setting is use default slide order.
      • Layout - The default setting is Wrap.
      • Auto Scroll - The default setting is View.
      • Preview Height - The default setting is 200 px.
      • Show text preview - The default setting is Yes.
• Song Auto Case
  • This setting determines how SongShow Plus will change the case of specific words in songs, based on the section.
    • This is useful for determining how to treat certain words in songs when adjusting the case treatments. Using As Entered, All upper or mixed case.
    • The default setting for all field types is As Entered. The user can edit these as needed.
• Song Database Panel
  • This setting determines how the song database panel search will appear in SongShow Plus and if pre-made slide shows will be considered.
    • The alphabet setting will allow a language selection to determine what characters are displayed in the search options. The default is English.
    • The default setting for the Check for pre-made slide shows is Yes.
• Song Media Control
  
  • This section contains several settings that determine how Slide Show slides appear in the Media Control panel of  SongShow Plus.
    • Listed below are the settings and their defaults:
      
      • Show - The default setting is Preview slides.
      • Abbreviate Verse Title - The default setting is No.
      • Arrange Preview Image - The default setting is Use default slide order.
      • Layout - The default setting is Wrap.
      • Auto Scroll - The default setting is View.
      • Preview Height - The default setting is 200 px.
      • Show text preview - The default setting is Yes.
• Song Parts
  • This section contains a list of available Song Parts that can be made available in SongShow Plus.
    • The default list contains several common Song Parts.
    • There are both default song parts, which are more modern, and classic song parts available for selection.
    • Each of those can be customized to the users liking, adding or removing options.
    • NOTE: Song parts can also be customized and added on the fly when creating/editing songs.
• Song Transitions
  • This setting determines how SongShow Plus applies transitions WITHIN a song (between verses or multi-part verses) This is different than the transitions set to ENTER a song.
    • There is a setting for verse to verse inside a song.  The default setting is Use the fade transition. 
    • There is a setting for multi-part verses inside a song.  The default setting is Use the fade transition. 
• Spell Check, Slides
  • This setting determines if SongShow Plus uses spell check when editing slides and what language(s) should be used.
    • There is a check box setting to enable spell check.  The default is checked (Enabled)
    • There is a setting for dictionary selection. The default is English checked (Enabled)
• Spell Check, Songs
  • This setting determines if SongShow Plus uses spell check when editing songs and what language(s) should be used.
    • There is a check box setting to enable spell check.  The default is checked (Enabled)
    • There is a setting for dictionary selection. The default is English checked (Enabled)
