How do I make the Songs auto advance?

Applicable SongShow Plus Versions:
This article applies to all versions of SongShow Plus

 * Ensure that you are using the most current build of SongShow Plus from the Download page for the best experience. *

One very useful feature in SongShow Plus is the ability to convert songs into slide shows.  This allows for a high level of customization for specific songs that the regular slide properties may not allow as well as some behavior that is not normally possible with songs used from the database.

One of these "special" behaviors is auto advancing songs. For song auto advance, there is not a setting in SongShow Plus for that, but it is possible with a little work. Typically, people would not use auto advance for songs since not everyone sings songs at a specific pace.  That said, it is possible using the Slide Builder.

NOTE: This process will not change the original song file NOR will changes to the original song file change the created slide show.  The process creates a copy of the song as a slide show.  From that point they are independent objects.  This song must also NOT be a stock song.  If you want to use a stock song, you will need to copy the song first in order to use the created slide show as expected.

To set up and use an auto advancing song slide show:

  1. Open SongShow Plus.
  2. From the Media Files panel select the Songs tab.
  3. Locate and select a song (not a stock song) that you want to create an auto advancing song slide show from.
  4. Right-click the song file and select the Convert to Slide Show option.
  5. When prompted, select option b - Edit the new slide show.
  6. This will open the new slide show in the Slide Builder.
    1. This will set the theme to match the existing SSP global Slide Properties.  You can either leave these as is or update as desired.
    2. Click on the Slide Show Tools tab in the Slide Builder.
    3. Select the Timing setting.
    4. Set the Advance the slide show setting to Automatically.
    5. Make sure the loop setting is set to No.  (Unlikely you will be looping a song).
    6. It is also unlikely that each slide will have exactly the same time.  Set the Slide Presentation time to Individual.  (Slide timing will be set in a later step)
    7. Click Save to close the Timing settings.
    8. Click on the Slide Tools tab in the Slide Builder.
    9. From here you can set the specific time you want each slide to be shown.  This may take some trial and error to get just right.
      1. Select the first slide.
      2. In the time setting, adjust the number of seconds that you want the slide to show.
      3. Select each slide in the slide show and set the timing.
    10. Use the Preview option to test the timing of your new slide show.
    11. Once you are happy with the slide show, save and close the Slide Builder.
  7. Once this is complete to your satisfaction, you can use it in a program.
  8. Return to SongShow Plus.
  9. Go to the Media Files and the Songs panel.
  10. Locate the song you were using and click the add button.
  11. This time, you will be prompted to use the new slide show (or not).
  12. Click on the slide show option to add to the program.
  13. Present the song from the program to ensure it plays as expected.
  14. If there are any adjustments that need to be made, be sure to make them to the slide show rather than the song file.

NOTE: Slides shows created in this manner will be located in the Slide Shows panel in a folder labeled Songs.
