Using SongShow Sync to keep all Songs up to date on all machines

3/27/2024

One very useful feature in SongShow Plus is SongShow Sync.

 * Ensure that you are using the most current build of SongShow Plus from the Download page for the best experience. *

SongShow Sync is included with the SongShow Connect subscription, which also includes SongShow Drive.  The SongShow Connect subscription provides the storage space for these services and needs to be renewed to remain available.

NOTE: SongShow Connect services (Drive and Sync) are now included as part of the Silver Subscription. You must maintain a Silver Subscription or higher to preserve access to your files. Content may be deleted if subscription lapses for more than 60 days.

There are a few other articles that you should review that cover specific issues and a basic overview. Use the SongShow Connect link above to explore the basics.

Operational Note: Neither SongShow Drive nor SongShow Sync are automatically executed.  Both require intentional and deliberate actions on the part of the user to upload or download content from the SongShow Connect repositories.
As with any type of software, SongShow Sync can be used in many ways or use models and end users need to take the time to learn the processes to use it most effectively.

Sync Use - Keeping songs consistent across all machines
There can be variations on this depending on which songs you want to Sync and how many machines you are syncing.  This option, as described, copies all songs from the default SongShow Plus database to the Corporate Sync database, then hides the SongShow Plus Database.  If that is not your intent or you have another variation in mind, contact support before proceeding.

NOTE: Best Practices are to run the Sync process both before and after changes are made to the Songs content.   While not always required, it is always a good idea to close SongShow Plus after initiating the sync process to ensure no files are in use.

Setup - Get current songs uploaded

  1. Ensure that Sync is already configured on your machine.  If not, refer to the SSP Best Practices - Using SongShow Sync article for initial setup and first Sync.
  2. Launch SongShow Plus.
  3. From the Media Files > Songs tab select Create/Acquire > Database.
  4. Select the Corporate option as the destination.
  5. Once the import window opens, select the SongShow Plus song database (usually at the top).
  6. Select one or more songs (use the CTRL and Shift keys) to be copied to the Corporate database. CAUTION: currently, there is a limit to the number of songs that can be imported at once. Please refer to the Importing songs using Song Database tool article before proceeding.
  7. Once your songs are selected, click the Select button.
  8. Once the import is done you will be prompted if you want to add them to the current program. Select No.
  9. Repeat as needed to get all the songs you want to sync copied to the Corporate database.
  10. Once all songs are copied as necessary, an initial Sync is needed.
  11. Run a Sync.  If you don't recall how, refer to the SSP Best Practices - Using SongShow Sync article for info in the Typical Sync Process section.

Typical Use - Adding new songs

  4. Go to Media Files and select the Songs tab.
  5. Create/Import new songs normally, ensuring that the Corporate database is selected for the destination of the new song.
  6. Once all new song(s) are added locally, repeat the Sync process to upload the new songs.
  7. After this is complete you can go to other machines, run Sync and confirm that the new songs have been added.

Training Videos - A video walk-through of this process may be available.  Depending on your current subscription level, you can go to the GoFishMedia website training page and log in with the same Customer ID and password that you use to log in to the SongShow Plus site or activate SongShow Plus. Review this article for more details.

If you have any questions regarding the use of or issues with any of the SongShow Sync methods, please contact the Support Team.
