Using SongShow Sync to keep all Programs up to date on all machines

3/28/2024

One very useful feature in SongShow Plus is SongShow Sync.

 * Ensure that you are using the most current build of SongShow Plus from the Download page for the best experience. *

SongShow Sync is included with the SongShow Connect subscription, which also includes SongShow Drive.  The SongShow Connect subscription provides the storage space for these services and needs to be renewed to remain available.

NOTE: SongShow Connect services (Drive and Sync) are now included as part of the Silver Subscription. You must maintain a Silver Subscription or higher to preserve access to your files. Content may be deleted if subscription lapses for more than 60 days.

There are a few other articles that you should review that cover specific issues and a basic overview. Use the SongShow Connect link above to explore the basics.

Operational Note: Neither SongShow Drive nor SongShow Sync are automatically executed.  Both require intentional and deliberate actions on the part of the user to upload or download content from the SongShow Connect repositories.
As with any type of software, SongShow Sync can be used in many ways or use models and end users need to take the time to learn the processes to use it most effectively.

Sync Use - Keeping Programs consistent across all machines
There can be variations on this depending on which Programs you want to Sync and how many machines you are syncing.  This option, as described, copies a single Program file from the SongShow Plus database to the Corporate Sync database. Obviously, this can be repeated to copy additional Programs.  If that is not your intent or you have another variation in mind, contact support before proceeding.

NOTE: Best Practices are to run the Sync process both before and after changes are made to the Songs content.   While not always required, it is always a good idea to close SongShow Plus after initiating the sync process to ensure no files are in use.

Setup - Get existing Program(s) uploaded

  1. Ensure that Sync is already configured on your machine.  If not, refer to the SSP Best Practices - Using SongShow Sync article for initial setup and first Sync.
  2. Launch SongShow Plus.
  3. From the Program panel select File > Open Program...
  4. From the dialog expand the Sync Folders so that the Corporate Programs is visible, but do not select it. (NOTE: If this does not show up, you may not have Sync set up correctly. Review that process before proceeding)
  5. Browse the default Programs folder tree to find a Program that you want to Sync.
  6. Click and drag the selected program to the Corporate Programs folder.  (NOTE: If needed, you can create new folders in the Corporate Programs folder path by right clicking the label and selecting New...)
  7. Return to the Corporate Programs folder in the Open Program dialog and select the program that was just copied.
  8. Click Open to open the program in the Program panel. Check the program to ensure it is constructed as expected. NOTE: Correct any errors in the program before moving to the next step.
  9. From the Program panel select File > Consolidate Files...
  10. The program will be analyzed to see if all the files will also be synced. If needed, it will give the option to copy the files - Click Yes.
  11. Repeat as needed to get all the Programs you want to sync copied to the Corporate Programs folder.
  12. Once all Programs are copied and consolidated as necessary, an initial Sync is needed.
  13. Close any open program or content running.
  14. Run a Sync.  If you don't recall how, refer to the SSP Best Practices - Using SongShow Sync article for info in the Typical Sync Process section.

Typical Use - Adding/Creating a new Program

  1. Ensure that Sync is already configured on your machine.  If not, refer to the SSP Best Practices - Using SongShow Sync article for info.
  2. Launch SongShow Plus.
  3. Run a Sync.  If you don't recall how, refer to the SSP Best Practices - Using SongShow Sync article for info in the Typical Sync Process section.
  4. Go to the Program panel.
  5. Create your new program normally, ensuring that the Corporate Programs folder is selected for the destination of the new program. Use the Save As... option when the program is first created to avoid duplicates in the local Program folder.
  6. Once the new program is created as desired, ensure that it is saved in the Corporate Programs folder.
  7. From the Program panel select File > Consolidate Files...
  8. The program will be analyzed to see if all the files will also be synced. If needed, it will give the option to copy the files - Click Yes.
  9. After this is complete you can go to other machines, run Sync and confirm that the new songs have been added.

Training Videos - A video walk-through of this process may be available.  Depending on your current subscription level, you can go to the GoFishMedia website training page and log in with the same Customer ID and password that you use to log in to the SongShow Plus site or activate SongShow Plus. Review this article for more details.

If you have any questions regarding the use of or issues with any of the SongShow Sync methods, please contact the Support Team.
