SSP Best Practices - Housekeeping for SongShow Plus - Rename or Delete Slide Properties Files
Applicable SongShow Plus Versions:
This article applies to all versions of SongShow Plus
In addition to the information noted in other articles, we make the following general recommendations regarding media housekeeping in SongShow Plus:
Slide Properties files can tend to accumulate over time or they may not have been effectively named when created. This can cause issues or confusion when trying to correctly apply saved Slide Properties files. This can also make moving SongShow Plus to a different machine or preparing for catastrophic failures more cumbersome with overly large backups required.
For the best result, we recommend that you periodically clean up your Slide Properties files, locating Slide Properties files that are dated or no longer relevant to delete from SongShow Plus.
Tips for selecting Files to Clean-up
- Look for files that are more than a few years old for removal.
- Look for files that are duplicates for removal.
- Look for files that are not named in a sufficiently descriptive way to rename.
Tips for File Rename or Removal
- If you have Slide Properties files to rename or remove, you will need to access the User Properties Files folder:
- Open SongShow Plus
- From the main tool bar, select the Slide Properties > All Media option.
- Select the Save To... option from the top of the Slide Properties settings panel.
- Select and right click the User Properties Files folder.
- From the resulting menu, select Explore. This will open the folder in Windows File Explorer.
- At this point you should close SSP to make sure none of the files are in use.
- From here you can rename or delete any Slide Properties files you need to.
- Once you complete this you should restart Song Show Plus.
NOTE: Since these are applied as templates, renaming/deleting these files will not change any currently applied slide properties.
Following these guidelines for your SongShow Plus system should contribute to trouble-free use.
