Slide Builder (SSB) Preferences - A Primer

SongShow Plus includes a stand alone Slide Builder (SSB) for creating content. Slide Builder has a variety of preferences available that control both the look and feel of the Slide Builder as well as how it behaves in certain situations. There are many common and useful settings, such as copy/paste behavior, media import behavior and edit window settings.
All of the Preferences options in Slide Builder can be found by accessing Settings > Preferences from the main toolbar. Some of the options can also be accessed from a panel or location where they are applied. Try right-clicking in panels or selecting the gear icon to open any related Preferences settings for a particular panel or toolbar.
The following settings are available in Slide Builder Preferences. The level of detail in these descriptions may vary depending on how important they are. The default setting will be noted below.
- Clipboard Paste
- This settings page is for the paste behavior when copy/pasting text from other sources. This can be useful to resolve formatting issues from other sources that are not compatible with SSP/SSB.
- Paste as plain text only - The default setting is unchecked.
- When pasting formatted text:
- Ignore Font - The default setting is checked.
- Ignore Size - The default setting is checked.
- Ignore Style - The default setting is unchecked.
- Ignore Color - The default setting is checked.
- This settings page is for the paste behavior when copy/pasting text from other sources. This can be useful to resolve formatting issues from other sources that are not compatible with SSP/SSB.
- Edit Window
- This settings page includes various settings related to the Edit Window behavior.
- Show Toolbar Hints - This shows the control hints when the mouse is hovered over them - The default setting is checked.
- Canvas Aspect Ratio - This setting allows the user to force an aspect ratio or allow a specific display to determine it. This is most useful when moving content between machines to set the destination aspect ratio - The default setting is the 4:3 ratio.
- Undo Buffer Support - This setting allows the user to determine if the undo/redo buffer is used - The default setting is Enabled.
- Grid Resolution - This setting allows the user to adjust the size of the grid spacing in the edit window - The default setting is 5%.
- Snap to Grid - This setting allows the user to have moved content self position according to the nearest grid line - The default setting is unchecked.
- Show Thumbnail Images - This setting allows the user to show the thumbnail view in the left panel of the edit window - The default setting is checked.
- Use Legacy Toolbar - This setting allows the user to use the old toolbar configuration - NOTE: some settings are not supported in the Legacy toolbar - The default setting is unchecked.
- This settings page includes various settings related to the Edit Window behavior.
- Media Files
- This setting determines if and how Slide Builder will handle the use or import of media when used in a slide or background.
- It is possible to set options to reference or embed media and also to import if located external to the SSP database.
- Best Practices dictate that ALL media be imported to and referenced from the internal SSP database.
- The default setting is Always Ask.
- This setting determines if and how Slide Builder will handle the use or import of media when used in a slide or background.
- Preview
- This setting determines how Slide Builder will show the preview of a slide or background.
- Black - When selected this will show a Black, opaque background as the last layer of the slide. This is the default selection.
- Transparent - When selected this will use a transparent background as the last layer of the slide. This may useful when presenting for streaming or other text over video options. This will be represented in the preview as a black and white checkerboard pattern.
- This setting determines how Slide Builder will show the preview of a slide or background.
- Slide Show File
- Slide Show Name Template
- This is a drop menu selection for different default naming formats that include title/date/time components.
- The default option is Slide Show - {date format "yyyy-mm-dd"}
- Slide Show Name Template
- Spell Check
- This setting determines if Slide Builder uses spell check when editing slides and what language(s) should be used.
- There is a check box setting to enable spell check. The default is checked (Enabled)
- This setting determines if Slide Builder uses spell check when editing slides and what language(s) should be used.
