Applicable SongShow Plus Versions:
This article applies to all versions of SongShow Plus 8.5 and Later

SongShow Plus has lots of settings and features. Sometimes when things don't go as planned, SongShow Plus can be left in a bad state leaving the settings inaccessible or unreliable.  It is also possible that, for one reason or another, SongShow Plus will crash and a user is not even able to re-launch it fully. This is usually related to a corruption of the state or settings during a crash.
It is also possible that over time, the complexity of the settings, especially the Slide Properties, gets out of hand leaving it un-organized and too complex. This can, in itself, cause slowness or errors in SSP and difficulty in troubleshooting issues. Or, you may just want to clear everything to defaults for a fresh start in SongShow Plus.

In any of these cases, the solution can be to reset SongShow Plus back to the program install defaults.

We want to take the least intrusive approach so we always recommend starting with the State reset.  If something is wrong here, resetting it will have the least impact on any configurations you have done/saved. If that does not work, we move on to settings as they also can get corrupt or out of date for several reasons. This will have the effect of going to clean install defaults so some "re-setup" may be required.  This is also why we recommend saving your Slide Properties periodically.

Before You Proceed

  • Know that these steps are accessing normally protected files and configuration changes may occur and settings may be lost.  If you are not comfortable proceeding on your own, contact the Support Team for additional assistance.
  • We highly recommend that you back up your Slide Properties settings - SSP Best Practices - Manage your Default Slide Properties - and take screen shots of important settings that you have modified from defaults such as Display Settings, Preferences or Layouts.
  • DO NOT delete any files.  If these steps don't work, you may want to return to the previous configuration.  More importantly, these old files will be important for support whether the issue is resolved or not.

Step 1 - Reset the SongShow Plus State

  1. Ensure that SongShow Plus is not running.
  2. Go to C:\ and then open the Users folder.
  3. Locate and open the appropriate folder for the Windows profile you access when using SSP. (This should match or be similar to the user name.)
  4. Open the App Data folder (NOTE: You may have to click View and then select the Hidden Items checkbox).
  5. Now open Local> R-Technics> SongShow Plus> 9.x  - depending on which version you are currently running - the .x is the build subversion like .3 for Version 9.3.
  6. Here you will rename the State folder to something else, like "State-old". DO NOT DELETE THE FOLDER.
  7. Restart SSP and try the failed actions again.
If that still doesn't resolve the issue, proceed to Step 2.

  4. Open the App Data folder (NOTE: You may have to click View and then select the Hidden Items checkbox).
  5. Now open Local> R-Technics> SongShow Plus> 9.x  - depending on which version you are currently running - the .x is the build subversion like .3 for Version 9.3.
