Check For Updates fails to complete the update install

Applicable SongShow Plus Versions: 
This article applies to versions 9.2 and later of SongShow Plus

 * Updates correcting this issue may be available. Ensure that you are using the most current build of SongShow Plus from the Download page before proceeding. *
NOTE: There are known issues with the Check for Updates tool in versions 9.1 and earlier - download the latest build from the website instead.  

The proper steps for updating SongShow Plus using the Check for Updates process is as follows:

  1. Launch SongShow Plus.
  2. From the main toolbar select Tools > Check For Updates.
  3. The displayed results indicate the status and any available updates as links.
  4. Select the link for Update Available. This will initiate the download process.
  5. Close SongShow Plus. (Important step for smooth update).
  6. Observe the download progress in the lower left corner of the Updater.
  7. Once the download is complete the option to install is presented - Ready for installation
  8. Click the box and select the Install option.
  9. Once the install launches, close the updater window (click the x in the upper right - this is an Important step for smooth update).
  10. Proceed normally with the installation, elevating as needed.

If the update steps above do not work as expected, review the options below.

Symptom:
When trying to complete an update installation through the Check for Updates tool, the installer either fails or displays error message indicating that some files are in use and a reboot may be necessary.

Possible Cause:
This is caused by SongShow Plus and/or the Updater tool remaining open when the installer is running.

Preferred Solution:
If you close any running SSP sessions as indicated in the starting messages of the installer, the update installation should proceed as expected without requiring any reboot.

Possible Solution:
If the install does complete successfully, a system reboot will be required to complete the process.

Possible Solution:
If you encounter an error, you should cancel the installation, close SongShow Plus and the Updater, then restart the installation.  The installer file will be in local Downloads folder.
