Checkerboard gray box checker pattern appears on previews - either Slide Builder or SongShow Plus Presenter

9/22/2023

Applicable SongShow Plus Versions:
This article applies to all versions of SongShow Plus

 * Updates correcting this issue may be available. Ensure that you are using the most current build of SongShow Plus from the Download page before proceeding. *

Symptom:
When editing or previewing content in either Slide Builder or SongShow Plus Presenter, the previewed output has a black and gray checkerboard background.

Possible Cause:
This is Expected Behavior.  This is intended to let the user know that full transparency has been enable though the user may not have done this intentionally. It is possible that the Transparent Base setting was turned on in the Output Window Display settings.  This setting is used only in very specific instances and should normally not be enabled.

Possible Solution:
The Transparent Base setting should normally be tuned off.  Refer to article TS120

NOTE: If it is really necessary to have the Transparent Base setting enabled, adjustments to the global Slide Properties can also be made to show a solid background for select media types.

Possible Cause:
It is possible that the background Base Color settings for the Slide Properties (in either or both locations) has been set to Transparent Base Color in the various media setting.

Possible Solution:
The Base Color setting should normally be set to Opaque. You can check this for each media type and the All Media settings:

  1. Locate the Slide Properties or Theme settings.
  2. Select the Property Group you need to adjust.  It is possible there are several locations this is set incorrectly.
  3. Select the Background Property Group.
  4. Locate the Base Color setting.  It will probably show the checker background in the selector.
  5. Click the down arrow selector next to the setting to open.  You may also need to expand the setting window.
  6. At the bottom there is a transparency slider. Slide this all the way to the right for fully Opaque.
  7. Repeat as needed for other Slide Properties.
  8. Click OK to save settings and close.
  9. Re-start SongShow Plus.

NOTE: The Slide Builder gets its initial default settings from the global Slide Properties in SongShow Plus so you may need to start checking there.
