Y'all rock!
Thanks for your quick responses to previous questions.
I would rather have one program only, but . . .
Is it ok to have SSP 4 and SSP 5.5 on the same machine?
Disk space is not an issue.

No. 2 different versions of SSP cannot cohabitate.

OK, they don't play well together.  Got it.

Now what I need to know is . . . why?

Sorry 'bout seeming to be obtuse, but I've gotta be able to explain why  v4 and v5.5 can't co-exist.

The Rodney King question (can't we all just get along) will come up.

Several of us wanted to be able to run the 7.0 prerelease one the same machine that had 5.5 installed, so we discussed that in this thread.

The other question is why would you want to run 4.0 on a machine licensed for 5.5? I, perhaps, missed something in another discussion.

Somewhere Doug posted and explained that; I think it boils down to sharing resources, uniqueness of directory/file/registry names, and difficulties like that. Similar to installing updates to Microsoft Office, I guess

why not just come up to V7??

I might have missed the reason for runing both 4 and 5.5 on the one computer, but if its for the fact that some people dont know how to use 5.5...

then throw them all in the deepend so to speak and move them all to V7.....??

just my thoughts..
