Feature Preview: Flare Effect

4/28/2007  < Previous  Next >
The following describes a feature of the upcoming April 2007 Edition of SSP (now in beta testing).

New to SSP is the Flare effect. This effect takes an image and allows you to specify an area on the image to have the appearance of a bright light source or a bright reflection of a light source. This is similar to the Shine effect that has been available with SSP for quite some time. The difference between the Shine effect and the Flare effect is that the latter creates a more realistic sense of a light source. Originally, this effect was to replace the old Shine effect algorithm, but after comparing the two and their uses, it was apparent that there was still a use for the more rectangular effect that Shine provided. Flare offers a new type of shine effect. With SSP, you can now apply this effect to an image without modifying it, and like all other RipFX based effects in SSP, it can be used on videos as well!

The Flare effect is included with the new Effects Collection 2 plug-in and is available with a Professional Level license.
