In Action: Praise His Holy Names
In last week's Thanksgiving service, we incorporated another vocal number, Praise His Holy Names by Fred Bock, arranged by Tom Fettke and Camp Kirkland. Here is a video rendering of the presentation I built to accompany this song:
The actual song continues on, I cut the video short for the example. Although this presentation is simpler than the one I built for the song For All of Life, it was actually trickier to time. The song contains mixed meters and mixed tempos, and at times, the words come fast and furious. I started off by assigning one slide to each measure of the song. This let me easily line up slide content with the lyrics of this song. Typically, each slide would contain a single name, but in some cases, two names were needed. After completing the slides, there was still the mater of the mixed meters and tempos. I needed to be able to set the overall presentation time to match the time our singers were actually using, so I wanted to avoid setting individual slide times. So get slides to line up correctly, I ran through the slide show using the pre-recorded arrangement, then duplicated slides at places where the tempo slowed down or names crossed multiple measures. After some trial and error, the slides lined up quite nicely. Using this technique was then able to adjust actual presentation length as needed based on the tempo our vocal group used.
The motion background used in this presentation is one from SermonSpice. I adjusted the brightness and contrast the help the motion background look better when presented through our system. Initially I also tried various hue adjustments but ended up using the original colors.
The names were randomly placed on the slides and used a yellowish shadow with maximum blur and straight light so as to create a glow effect.
Incidentally, our vocal team for this song was a small ensemble, this I liked better than the bigger choir sound you hear in this recording. The congregation responded enthusiastically to this piece!
