The Live Video plug-in Still Has Life at CFN

I attended the rehearsal for the Christ for the Nations Conference recording session last night and it's going to be a great CD. Due out later this spring I'm told.

I assisted with configuring SongShow Plus to work with both a live video stream and lower-thirds for lyrics. We actually used the nearly-forgotten Live Video plug-in to accomplish this, along with some tricky connections. It's been so long since I used that module that I had to get familiar with it again myself. I guess its a good thing that we haven't totally deprecated support for it.

If you're just a bit confused, with the release of version 5.5 back in 2003, we integraded video device support as something more equivalent to playing video files and video backgrounds. No effort has been made to maintain the Live Video plug-in, except to maintain backward compatibility to it (which is a bit of a hassle).

However, current feature set did not meet the specific needs of the video team at the conference. As it turns out, the Live Video plug-in did. We built a display with output with video on top and lower-third lyrics over black background as needed. It's nice to see that a piece of code that has not been altered in over either years still be useful.

I did discuss with them the more sophisticated text-over lag-free video solution that we offer. Perhaps that will be something for next year!
