Feature Preview: Other Song Importer Enhancements

6/25/2013  < Previous  Next >
With the addition of the PDF and Word song lyrics importers, a new song lyrics importer user interface was created. This interface is superior to the old one in a number of ways. First, you can edit the content before you perform the import. Second, you can add song parts from within the importer itself. Previously, both of these operations couldn't be performed until after the song was imported then re-edited. Third, the layout of the importer is improved by making the parts buttons more accessible.

Because of this, the other existing song importers have been reworked to use the new interface. This includes the PowerPoint song lyrics importer, the text file importer, and the clipboard importer, which is just a variation of the text file importer. So in SongShow Plus 8, all import operations that involve copying text from a standard document format to a song now use the same user interface so the functions are identical.

Below is a screen shot of the new PowerPoint song lyrics importer. You'll notice that slide previews have been replaced by a single text box containing text extracted from all of the slides.

That looks great. Much more straightforward.

Those look like text entry boxes on the right. Can we now directly edit the lyrics from this screen, for typos and tweaks and such?

Yes. That is one of the enhancements I mentioned. You can edit the text prior to completing the import. Previously, you would complete the import, then re-edit the song to fix it up.

Believe me, I know Miss one line when you are copying the text into the clipboad, and the process got a lot longer.

That's why I'm so excited about this feature.

It's also useful because sometimes the source text is incorrect, inconveniently formatted, or contains things like chords.

Or missing things like punctuation!

Or having unnecessary punctuation.

Or capital letters where they shouldn't be.

I have tried clipboard import, and love the new interface. Thanks!
