Enhancement: Using a Machine-local Access Point

8/31/2013  < Previous  Next >
Another enhancement to the support for mobile apps in SongShow Plus 8.0 is the use of a machine-local access point. It is becoming more common now for churches to provide publicly accessible wireless access points. You may have some reservations, however, about making your SongShow Plus machine accessible through a wireless network (as you probably should), but if you want to use the mobile apps, your machine will need to be reachable through a wireless connection.

In SongShow Plus 7, you can specify the IP address to use for the SongShow Plus HTTP server. However, the beacon mechanism binds itself the default IP address. In most cases, this is not a problem. But it is a problem if the two IP addresses belong to separate subnets. In this situation, the mobile apps will not find the SongShow Plus machine.

In version 8.0, the beacon is set to bind to the same IP address as the HTTP server. Because of this, you can now connect a wireless access point directly to your SongShow Plus machine then configure SongShow Plus to user the IP address of wireless device. This gives you an independent wireless network that can be used just by your media team.

This enhancement makes it easier to provide a separate private wireless network for direct access to the SongShow Plus machine by your media team.
