SongShow Signage is not working - What do I do?

3/4/2022

When you receive your SongShow Signage Digital Signage Device (DSD), it will have been completely configured and activated - all you have to do is connect it to your display device, connect power and turn it on. The signage player or Digital Signage Device (DSD), is intended to run hands-free once installed. There should be no need for user interaction directly with the hardware (DSD) once it is deployed.

When connected and powered up for the first time, the DSD should automatically connect to you network and download a "Setup Complete" slide show.  If this is not displayed, please contact the Support Team.

If the initial setup did work as expected but it later does not work as expected or appears to be frozen there may be an issue.

The Support Team is able to access the DSD remotely to assist with more complex issues but in many cases a simple power cycle can resolve issues that come up.

There are a few things already implemented to prevent issues:

  • The DSD is set to automatically start in the correct profile and automatically run the player application with the latest content.
  • The DSD is set to automatically reboot once per day to avoid memory or other OS issues.  This should be set to "off hours" by default.
  • The DSD is set to automatically check for new content and schedules frequently to avoid delays in updates.

There are several other articles that cover specific issues that can be reviewed first, however, if you do find the need to restart the DSD, the following is the preferred method.

  1. Observe the state of the display device (TV or monitor) the DSD is connected to and insure that it is working properly.  If the display is in a sleep mode, disable that before continuing.
  2. If the DSD is easily accessible, press and hold the power button for at least 5 seconds or until it powers off. Some installations may not be easy to access (elevated) or power is switched. If a remote switch is available, turn it off to power down the DSD.  If necessary, disconnect power at the nearest source to the connection of the DSD.
  3. Wait at least 20 seconds.
  4. Power the DSD back on.  Either press the power button directly or reconnect power.
  5. Observe the start up process and confirm that it boots into the OS and automatically starts the player.  This process should take about 2 minutes or less if there are no pending updates.

If this article does not resolve the issue, contact the Support Team.
