SSP Media Indexer - Media file names are changed in SongShow Plus after an update - indexer issue re-index

5/6/2024

Applicable SongShow Plus Versions:
This article applies to SongShow Plus Version 9.3

 * Updates correcting this issue may be available. Ensure that you are using the most current build of SongShow Plus from the Download page before proceeding. *

Symptom:
After updating SongShow Plus, it was discovered that some media files names have changed.  These files are displaying something other than the file name as expected.

Possible Cause:
This is most likely expected behavior.  One of the changes was to make use of the metadata that is included with many media files to show a more descriptive file name. Many times, the default filename is numbers or other undescriptive title.  This information is pulled from the Title metadata field of the file.

Possible Solution:
Since this is most likely expected behavior there is no "bug" on this, however it is possible to make changes to revert back to the "file name only" display in SSP.

Possible Modifications:

  • The user can access the metadata on the file directly and edit or delete it entirely:
    • From Windows Explorer, locate the file in question.
    • Right-click the file and select Properties.
    • Click on the Details tab.
    • In the Description section, edit or delete the contents of the Title field.
    • Click OK to close.

  • The user can turn off the metadata indexing for all media files:
    • From the SongShow Plus main toolbar select Settings > Indexer... (if this is not available, view this article first)
    • When the Indexer settings open, locate the first setting - Index image, video and audio metadata.
    • Change this setting to No.
    • Save Settings and restart SSP as prompted.

  • The user can access resume using the Legacy Indexing:
    • NOTE: It is recommended that this be changed only AFTER talking to support for best results.
    • From the SongShow Plus main toolbar select Settings > Indexer... (if this is not available, view this article first)
    • When the Indexer settings open, locate the last setting - Use Legacy Indexing.
    • Change this setting to Yes.
    • Save Settings and restart SSP as prompted.
